Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the long-term survival of patients with recurrent or oligometastatic gynecological cancer (ROMGC) treated with radiation therapy (RT) and investigate their clinical characteristics. The study found that patients in the chemoradiation group had higher median disease-free survival (DFS) compared to those treated with RT alone. Further randomized studies are needed to identify the patients who would benefit the most.

Summary: The majority of participants in this study were found to have vitamin D deficiency or insufficiency, with significant associations between low serum vitamin D levels and gynecologic diseases such as abnormal Pap smear results, high-risk HPV infection, and dysmenorrhea. Even after controlling for age, serum vitamin D levels were still significantly associated with conditions like abnormal breast ultrasound, uterus ultrasound, and dysmenorrhea.

Summary: This study aimed to summarize the evidence regarding the effectiveness of exercise interventions in reducing cancer-related fatigue. A total of 46 systematic reviews were assessed, and it was found that exercise intervention can be effective in reducing cancer-related fatigue. However, the quality of the included reviews was generally low, highlighting the need for higher-quality studies in this area.

Summary: This study compared the disease-free survival, cancer-specific survival, and peri-operative morbidity between patients undergoing open and minimally invasive pelvic exenteration. The results showed no significant difference in survival rates and complications, but a higher intra-operative transfusion rate was seen in the open group.

Summary: Edoxaban has been found to be effective and safe for the treatment of gynecological cancer-associated thromboembolism. The study shows that there is no significant difference in recurrence rates or adverse events between edoxaban and vitamin K antagonist (VKA) treatment. Initial unfractionated heparin (UFH) therapy prior to administration of edoxaban may not be necessary for patients without pulmonary embolism (PE).

Summary: People with Long Covid experience varying symptoms that change over time. This study found real-time associations between different symptoms and between symptoms and physical activity. Specifically, fatigue was correlated with pain, and cognitive difficulty was correlated with light-headedness. However, the correlation between symptoms and physical activity was inconsistent.

Summary: Previous studies on myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS) have mainly focused on White subjects, resulting in limited information about ethnic differences. This study examined a sample of 19 Black patients diagnosed with ME/CFS and compared them to White patients with ME/CFS and healthy controls. The findings suggest that there are few differences in symptoms between Black and White patients with ME/CFS. The implications of these findings are discussed.

Summary: Chemotherapy is essential for treating gynecological cancers, and delivering anticancer drugs effectively with minimal side effects is crucial. The use of lipid bubbles combined with ultrasound can help enhance the therapeutic effects of cytotoxic drugs, with cisplatin and pegylated liposomal doxorubicin showing significant benefits in this drug delivery system. Bevacizumab, on the other hand, did not show significant improvements when combined with the bubble ultrasound-mediated drug delivery system.

Summary: Cancer-related fatigue (CRF) is common in gynecological cancer patients and often goes unnoticed. This study aimed to explore the prevalence and clinical characteristics of CRF in these patients. The results showed that 77.9% of patients had received fatigue management, and a predictive model was developed to help identify high-risk patients.

Summary: The study identified a range of barriers and facilitators to physical activity in giant cell arteritis (GCA) patients, including physical symptoms, perceptions of personal capability, negative perceptions of physical activity, and facilitators such as motivation from healthcare professionals and personal strategies like pacing and goal-setting. Future work could involve developing an intervention to support physical activity in GCA patients, potentially using a behavioral change framework and involving patients in the design process.

Summary: There is little consistency in the use and reporting of mechanical
insufflation-exsufflation (MI-E) in invasively ventilated critically ill adults, making it difficult to provide recommendations for best practices. The main indications for MI-E use were the presence of secretions and mucus plugging, while perceived contraindications were related to the use of high levels of positive pressure. The settings and reporting of MI-E were inconsistent, with only a few studies reporting adverse events.

Summary: Realist evaluation is a methodology that assesses the effectiveness of complex interventions by developing and validating program theories. In rapidly changing environments, unpredictable forces need to be incorporated into the evaluation process to optimize program implementation. When studying rapidly changing health service delivery, initial program theories can be developed through creative thinking, empirical literature, and stakeholder consultation, and the causal impact of different components can be tested to improve the quality of evaluation outputs.

Summary: The aim of this study was to understand the experiences and perspectives of practitioners on continence training, and how to improve its implementation and engagement. Qualitative interviews were conducted with nursing, medical, and allied health practitioners in three hospitals. Data analysis was done thematically, using both manual methods and NVivo software. The study emphasizes the importance of authorizing and providing continence training in ways that reflect professional preferences and practical resource considerations to enhance its uptake and engagement.

Summary: There is currently a lack of high-quality evidence regarding the effectiveness of TENS for chronic musculoskeletal pain. Future research should focus on consensus-building regarding the content and delivery of TENS training, as well as the development of an effective and acceptable training course. Additional research is also needed to expand the evidence base for appropriate patient-reported outcomes in the context of TENS use.
