Summary: This study investigated the utility of ICG angiography in patients treated with a free medial femoral condyle graft for scaphoid nonunions. The results showed that ICG angiography can assess the blood supply of the periosteum and the vascular pedicle of the MFC bone graft, which is helpful for intraoperative decision making.

Summary: This study investigated the use of the coccygeal bone as an autogenous bone graft to fill a large femoral defect in a dog with nonunion after a femoral fracture. Rigid fixation was achieved between the coccygeal and femoral bone fragments using orthogonal locking plates and screws. Various methods were employed to enhance bone healing and facilitate proper weight bearing and ambulation. The engrafted bone healed well and maintained stability over a prolonged period, resulting in good outcomes, although some lameness was noted when running.

Summary: Autogenous iliac crest bone grafting remains the gold standard for the treatment of persistent tibial nonunions, with a high union rate of 97.1% achieved at a mean time of 7.8 months postoperatively. Surgical approach did not significantly impact time to union, indicating the efficacy of ICBG regardless of approach.

Summary: When treating scaphoid nonunion, the decision to use vascularized or nonvascularized bone grafting should be based on patient and fracture-specific risk factors. Avascular necrosis alone is not the only indicator for vascularized bone grafting, and other preoperative risk factors for surgery failure also need consideration.

Summary: The study compared the outcomes of free vascularized iliac bone flap (FVIBF) and vascularized pedicled iliac bone flap (PIBF) surgery for ONFH patients, finding that FVIBF had advantages in terms of shorter operative time, less blood loss, and lower risk of lateral femoral cutaneous nerve (LFCN) injury, while showing similar postoperative Harris hip score (HHS) results.

Summary: This study compared the use of free vascularized fibular flaps (FVF) and allograft fibular struts (AFS) for spinopelvic reconstruction after sacral tumor resection. The results showed that reconstruction with FVF had shorter time to union and higher Musculoskeletal Tumor Society Score compared to reconstruction with AFS.

Summary: This study aims to classify basicervical and transcervical shear fractures and determine the optimal osteosynthesis method for them. The results showed that basicervical fractures accounted for 0.96% of all proximal femur fractures, with a 0% failure rate, while transcervical shear fractures accounted for 9.6% of all proximal femur fractures, with a 13% failure rate. Finite element analysis demonstrated that transcervical shear fractures have high instability and may require multiple screw insertions and careful postoperative management.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the effects of postoperative femoral neck shortening in patients with femoral neck fractures fixed with femoral neck system screws (FNS) and to explore the influencing factors. The data of 113 patients with femoral neck fractures were retrospectively analyzed, and the incidence of femoral neck shortening, postoperative complication rates, and hip Harris scores were compared between the femoral neck shortening group and the femoral neck no shortening group. The results showed that FNS fixation of femoral neck fractures had a high incidence of postoperative neck shortening, and factors such as cortical comminution, fracture type, and fracture reduction quality were significantly correlated with neck shortening. Femoral neck shortening can affect postoperative hip function but does not affect fracture healing.

Summary: DMD patients often suffer from bone abnormalities, and studies have shown that heterochronic parabiosis with young mice can significantly improve bone mass and microstructure in aged dKO-hetero mice, as well as enhance bone defect healing in dKO-homo mice. This suggests that systemic blood-borne factors and/or progenitor cells from young mice may play a positive role in bone health in DMD patients.
