Summary: Reaction between ortho-carborane and anhydrous AlCl3 in chloroform produces a mixture of derivatives with different substituents, with 9,12-dichloro-ortho-carborane being the main product. The crystal structure of 9,12-dichloro-ortho-carborane was determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction, and it is nearly isostructural to 9,12-dibromo-ortho-carborane. A synthetic scheme for preparing the hexachloro derivative of cobalt bis(dicarbollide) from 9,12-dichloro-ortho-carborane has been proposed.

A packing model for the complex molecules, depending on the type of surfactant, was proposed based on SAXS results. The dielectric process in low frequency range was interpreted as oscillation of surfactant ions, similar to ions in pure DNA solutions.

Summary: We have developed a protocol for asymmetric synthesis of artificial amino acids with a 3-spiropyrrolidine oxindole skeletal structure containing continuous tetrasubstituted carbon stereocenters. This synthesis is achieved through a 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reaction of azomethine ylides generated in situ with a chiral dehydroalanine Ni(II) complex. The reaction of the Ni(II) complex with isatins and amino acids in ethanol solvent resulted in diastereomeric complexes with high selectivities. Quantum chemical calculation explained the formation of different regioisomers for sarcosine and proline. The acidic decomposition of Ni(II) complexes yielded the desired unnatural complex amino acids, and the chiral auxiliary ligand could be recovered and reused for subsequent reactions.

Summary: The reaction between a cyclic trinuclear copper(I) or silver(I) pyrazolate complex and 1,1'-dimethyl-2,2'-bibenzimidazole can result in the formation of tetranuclear adducts decorated by one or two molecules of a diimine ligand. The coordination of the ligand can stabilize the formation of a tetrahedral core in the copper-containing complex and a distorted tetrahedron in the silver analog. Complexes with one diimine molecule possess two types of metals and exhibit significantly distorted central cores. Temperature decrease and solid-state structure activate triplet states, leading to phosphorescence. The silver-containing complex exhibits dual emission even at room temperature.

Summary: In this work, novel catalytic systems for Activators Generated by Electron Transfer (AGET) ATRP of acrylonitrile based on copper (II) bromide complexes were proposed. It was found that Rochelle salt (potassium sodium tartrate tetrahydrate) may be used as a reducing agent for regeneration of copper-based catalysts to increase the rate of the process. The use of a tandem catalytic system based on two copper complexes with different ligands also increases the polymerization rate, allowing for the rapid synthesis of polyacrylonitrile polymers with desired molecular weights exceeding 100 kDa.

Summary: The investigation studied the interaction of cyclic trinuclear silver(I) pyrazolate [AgPz](3) with pyridine-based chalcones through various spectroscopic techniques. The carbonyl group participated in coordination with metal ions, while non-covalent pi-pi/M-pi interactions played a major role in complex formation. The structures of the complexes were retained in both solution and solid state. Isomerization affected the complexation of anthracene-containing chalcones, with E-isomer seeking a planar structure and Z-isomer showing chelating coordination. The complexation of anthracene-containing chalcones allowed a change in emission nature, while phenyl-substituted chalcone demonstrated a significant shift in emission energy compared to the free base when complexed with a macrocycle.

Summary: Two monomeric heteroleptic charge transfer (CT) complexes, NiII(3,6-Cat)(DADdipp) (1) and CoII(3,6-Cat)(DADdipp) (2), were synthesized using a two-step synthetic procedure. Complex 1 exhibits a low energy ligand-to-ligand charge transfer (LL'CT), resulting in a NIR NiII chromophore with high light absorption and sensitivity to solvent polarity. Complex 2, on the other hand, shows a significant change in CT properties and a decrease in absorptivity due to the bulky ligands. The electrochemical behavior of the complexes is determined by the differences in coordination geometry and the involvement of the metal center in redox transitions.
