Summary: Metal-cyclen complexes have been widely studied as useful platforms for molecular receptors and supramolecules. In this study, the crystal structure of a p-xylyl doubly-bridged ZnII-cyclen complex was characterized. The complex exhibited a left-handed helix structure formed by linking p,p-bis(ZnII-cyclen) units with nitrate ions. The geometry around the zinc ions was a five-coordinated square pyramid.

Summary: This study presents a diruthenium(III,IV) complex with a doubly oxido-bridged core and a carbonato bridged between the two ruthenium centers, exploring interactions with cations. In acidic aqueous solutions, the carbonato ligand remained bound to the doubly bridged core, undergoing reversible protonation/deprotonation reactions. The structures of the protonated complexes were successfully characterized.

Summary: Due to the development of integrated circuits, thermal management has become an important requirement for many types of electrical equipment. In this study, modified and reduced graphene fillers were synthesized and filled into epoxy resin through solvent evaporation. By including amino groups in the resin, the interfacial thermal resistance between the filler and matrix material was lowered, thus improving graphene compatibility in the epoxy resin. Furthermore, the reduction procedure was found to have the potential to fix graphene oxide flaws, thereby enhancing the thermal stability, electrical conductivity, and thermal conductivity of the composites.

Summary: A bimetallic alkynylplatinum(ii) terpyridyl complex bridged by [2.2]paracyclophane shows severe emission quenching due to intramolecular pi-pi interactions. However, it undergoes an adaptive conformational change upon binding Ag+, which weakens the intramolecular stacking strength and results in turn-on emission.

Summary: Ru(iv)-Ru(iv) complexes with a doubly oxido-bridged diamond core and bridging carbonate or hydrogen carbonate ligands were synthesized from the corresponding carbonato-bridged Ru(iii)-Ru(iv) complex. The structures of [IV,IV](ClO4)(2) and [IV,IV_1H](ClO4)(3) were characterized. The electrochemical and spectroscopic properties of [IV,IV](2+) and [IV,IV_1H](3+) in organic solvents and aqueous solutions, as well as their reactivity towards organic solvents and substrates, were investigated. This is the first systematic comparison of Ru(iv)-Ru(iv) species and corresponding Ru(iii)-Ru(iv) complexes in the same tridentate ligand system.

Summary: Simultaneous oxidation of benzyl alcohol and reduction of p-dinitrobenzene were achieved using Gd-doped TiO2 nanorods decorated with PoPD nanowires. The doping of Gd induced surface defects and the incorporation of PoPD enhanced the light absorption capability and electron conductivity of TiO2. Selective oxidation of benzyl alcohol yielded benzaldehyde, while selective reduction of p-dinitrobenzene yielded p-nitroaniline or p-phenylenediamine, depending on the solvent used. This work demonstrates the importance of utilizing photogenerated charge carriers and the role of solvent in selective organic transformations.

Summary: A new type of dithiasapphyrins embedded with phenothiazine was discovered, and the versatility of these compounds was demonstrated through the synthesis of various derivatives with different substituents. The structure of the macrocycles was confirmed using multiple techniques, and it was found that the double N-C-fused dithiasapphyrins were more stable than the nonfused phenothiazine-embedded dithiasapphyrin. The macrocycles exhibited nonaromaticity, as confirmed by NMR, absorption, and DFT studies. The absorption spectra showed shifts to the NIR region after protonation. Electrochemical studies confirmed the electron-rich nature of the macrocycles, consistent with the theoretical predictions.

Summary: Solar energy conversion, particularly through photoelectrochemical water splitting, is a promising approach to produce clean hydrogen energy. Semiconductors, such as TiO2 and ZnO, play a crucial role in absorbing solar radiation to generate electron-hole pairs for water splitting. Aligned nanoarrays (NAs) in various forms have shown great potential as photoactive materials for PEC water splitting, with a focus on their synthesis, characterizations, and performance compared to other morphologies.

Summary: Through first-principles DFT simulations, the study found that the functionalization of BNNS with polypyrrole (PP) stabilized the HOMO-LUMO energy states, significantly reducing the energy gap by 45% and improving electronic properties and cell reaction kinetics. The predicted improvement in cell voltage after functionalization with PP, especially for Li-ion and Na-ion batteries, highlights the influence of metal ion size and charge on energy efficiency.

Summary: This study investigated the electrochemical dechlorination of different polychloromethanes using a Co-MoS2 graphite felt cathode, with optimized parameters such as current density, pH, and sample concentration. The Co-MoS2 graphite felt electrode exhibited excellent catalytic activity towards the reduction of chlorinated compounds with high selectivity towards higher-order organochlorides. The dechlorination rates followed a first-order kinetic model, with estimated apparent rate constants showing dechlorination in the sequence CH2Cl2 < CHCl3 < CCl4.

Summary: The PL origin of CNDs is often limited by the disconnect between their structural complexity in solid-state and the PL properties in dispersed solution phase. By synthesizing photoluminescent polymeric materials through direct polyesterification and comparing them with CNDs prepared by pyrolysis of CA, it was found that the polymeric materials exhibit distinct structural and photophysical properties. Additionally, it is proposed that intermediate molecular fluorophores may be trapped along with CNDs in the polymer matrix.

Summary: In this study, carbon materials prepared from a low-cost petroleum waste carbon precursor activated at 400 degrees C using KOH, MgO, and Ca(OH)(2) were reported. Low-temperature activated carbons were prepared as electrode materials using commercial ink as a binder. The electrochemical performance of the electrodes was studied using cyclic voltammetry and galvanostatic charge-discharge in a 3-electrode system with 1 M potassium nitrate (KNO3) as electrolyte, and the supercapacitive performance was evaluated in a potential window range of 0.0-1.0 V. The best-performance activated carbon derived from vacuum residue exhibited a specific surface area of 1250.6 m(2)/g and a specific capacitance of 91.91 F/g.
