Summary: Cost-effective fluorescence turn-on indicator-displacement-assay (IDA) sensors based on octamethylcalix[4] pyrrole receptor and tetrabutylammonium salts of 4-methylumbelliferone and fluorescein indicators were developed for highly sensitive detection of fluoride anion. The IDA sensors demonstrated rapid and selective sensitivity towards fluoride, with color change observed in the 4-methylumbelliferone system. The fluorescein-based IDA sensor showed a detection limit as low as 3.2 nM for fluoride anion detection.

Summary: Two simple salicylaldehyde-based sensors, BDQ and BQ, have been developed for anion sensing and anti-counterfeiting applications. Their chemical structures were determined through 1H, 13C NMR, and mass spectra. The sensors showed a strong response to F- ions, with detection limits as low as 7.5 x 10-7 M, and the colorimetric change and turn-on fluorescence were attributed to the excited-state proton transfer (ESPT) process.

Summary: Triarylboron/acridine hybrids with donor-acceptor structures were designed and synthesized. By modifying the acridine with additional phenyl groups, a novel compound was used as a fluorescent probe for detecting fluoride ion. The modified compound exhibited intense deep-blue emission when reacted with F-. The deep-blue emission originates from the phenyl modified DMAc groups, which expands the pi conjugate system.

Summary: Nanomaterial based indicator displacement assays using fluorescent metal nanoclusters as receptors have been developed. In this study, GSH/CD-AuNCs were used as receptors and kaempferol/Al3+ complex as an indicator to fabricate a new nanomaterial based IDA. The fluorescence of GSH/CD-AuNCs was quenched by the KAE/Al3+ complex, but could be restored in the presence of chlorothalonil due to its higher affinity with beta-CD. Based on this principle, a novel fluorescent turn-on IDA-LFA for chlorothalonil was successfully constructed. This method has the advantages of rapid detection and high sensitivity.

Summary: The study presents a novel luminescent coordinated metal cluster (LCMC) that shows high selectivity and sensitivity in detecting chloride ions and histidine. The cluster exhibits luminescent enhancement for chloride ion sensing and luminescent quenching for histidine sensing. The LCMC can be used to create luminous test papers for convenient visual detection and has potential applications in environmental monitoring.

Summary: A promising click fluorescent labeling method with high selectivity for the determination of five steroid hormones in food samples was proposed. The method relies on the reaction between 3-Azido-7-hydroxycoumarin and the alkynyl group of steroid hormones in the presence of copper (I), resulting in a turn-on fluorescence response. The method showed excellent performance with good linearity and low detection limit when detected by HPLC-FLD.

Summary: This study modified the synthesis of antiaromatic hexaphyrin derivatives by chemically altering the meso-substituents, resulting in high-yield reaction products. A regio-selective nucleophilic aromatic substitution led to the successful synthesis of a compound with 26 pi-electron aromaticity, showing significant changes in photophysical and redox properties compared to the starting material.
