Summary: The study demonstrated that the new positional vibrating device was effective in reducing the Apnoea-Hypopnoea Index and time spent in the supine position, as well as improving sleep architecture, making it a good option for managing patients with positional obstructive sleep apnoea.

Summary: Respiratory effort is a main feature of obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA), and is associated with sympathetic overactivity. This study found that the percentage of total sleep time spent with increased respiratory effort (REMOV,%TST), measured by mandibular jaw movements, can predict the prevalence of hypertension in adults with OSA.

Summary: Oral appliance treatment for obstructive sleep apnea patients with headaches showed significant improvement in headache characteristics, with a higher prevalence of morning headaches in headache responders. The study suggests that oral appliance treatment can be beneficial for OSA patients with headaches, especially those with mild to moderate OSA.

Summary: OSA is relatively common in patients with PH, especially in those with chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension and lung disease- or hypoxia-associated PH. Older age, male sex, and lower daytime arterial oxygen pressure are risk factors for OSA in PH patients.

Summary: There is increasing recognition of the importance of dental sleep medicine and oral appliance therapy (OAT) in managing obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA). This review focuses on understanding the mode of action of OAT, exploring its anatomical and physiological impact, clinical guidelines, device design features, patient predictors, and the impact on health outcomes.

Summary: Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) is a common disease characterized by upper airway collapse during sleep, leading to chronic intermittent hypoxaemia and systemic inflammation. OSA is associated with increased risk for cardiovascular morbidity and mortality, affecting coagulation and fibrinolysis processes. Further research is needed to understand the mechanisms and clinical implications of OSA-related changes in these processes.

Summary: Using oral appliances (OAs) for snoring and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) management in adults may result in malocclusion characteristics, particularly anterior teeth positional changes. However, the clinical relevance of these changes may vary depending on the pretreatment occlusion.

Summary: Obstructive sleep apnoea is common in chronic kidney disease (CKD) and may accelerate kidney function decline. However, recruiting patients for a trial to evaluate the impact of CPAP therapy on kidney function is challenging due to asymptomatic nature of sleep apnoea in this population. Strategies to increase awareness and recruitment efficiency are needed to address these challenges.

Summary: This study aims to determine the true incidence of arrhythmias, especially atrial fibrillation, in patients with obstructive sleep apnoea using implantable loop recorders (ILRs). It also intends to assess cardiac autonomic function and explore cardiovascular outcomes. The study will involve 200 patients who will be randomized to receive either standard care alone or standard care plus ILR and Holter monitoring. The primary objective is to compare arrhythmia detection over 3 years between the two groups. The study has been approved by the ethics committee and plans to publish the findings in peer-reviewed journals.

Summary: In this Review, the authors summarize the shared risk factors and causal links between obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) and cardiovascular disease (CVD), as well as the emerging knowledge on the heterogeneity of OSA. They also explore the potential role of new biomarkers for cardiovascular risk stratification in patients with OSA.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the changes in jaw function after using an oral appliance to treat obstructive sleep apnea. The results showed that the oral appliance had limited influence on jaw functions and related symptoms, and the risk of pain and functional impairment in the jaw was low.

Summary: This study found that obesity is a risk factor for IIH and OSA, with OSA being common in IIH patients. Treatment with bariatric surgery can improve OSA in IIH patients, and improvement in AHI is closely related to improvement in papilloedema.
