Pain characteristics in medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaws

Female gender was significantly associated with pain, and osteonecrosis lesions after dental surgery had a higher risk of pain.

In addition, Au@ZIF-8/CAS can promote osteogenesis and exhibit antibacterial properties in vitro, and its therapeutic potential for BRONJ was confirmed in vivo.

Targeted histological evaluation shows high incidence of actinomyces infection in medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaws

Summary: Medication-Related Osteonecrosis of the Jaws (MRONJ) is a difficult-to-treat complication of osteoporosis therapy and some malignancies cured with bisphosphonates and antiresorptive drugs. This study found that using a validated triple staining procedure for Actinomyces bacteria strains can detect a high rate of Actinomyces infection in MRONJ patient samples. The results suggest that the triple special staining should be the standard in MRONJ histology evaluation and can aid clinicians in selecting appropriate antibiotic medication for the elimination of actinomyces infection.

Dental patients on bisphosphonates are at a higher risk of BRONJ, necessitating dentists' awareness of these risks. Topical applications of bisphosphonates enhance dental implant success and aid in periodontal treatment, while systemic administration significantly increases the risk of BRONJ, particularly in inflamed conditions. Preventive measures involve maintaining oral health, considering alternative treatments, and careful pre-operative and post-operative follow-ups. Future research could focus on finding bisphosphonate alternatives with fewer side effects or developing combinations that reduce BRONJ risk. This review underscores the need for further exploration of bisphosphonates and their implications in dental procedures.

Is serum C-terminal telopeptide cross-link of type 1 collagen a reliable parameter for predicting the risk of medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaws? A systematic review and meta-analysis of diagnostic test accuracy

Summary: This study aimed to assess the usefulness of serum C-terminal telopeptide cross-link of type 1 collagen (sCTX) as a preoperative marker for predicting the risk of medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaws (MRONJ) in patients undergoing invasive oral surgery while on antiresorptive medication. The overall performance of sCTX was found to be low, indicating that it is not suitable for predicting the risk of MRONJ in these patients.

Quality of life in patients affected by medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaws: A systematic review

Surgical treatment of the osteonecrosis was found to improve the quality of life of these patients. The study suggested a negative influence of osteonecrosis of the jaw on the quality of life and oral health-related quality of life among oncologic and osteoporotic patients.

Resveratrol for preventing medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaws in rats

Summary: This study describes the dermatoscopic features of nodular/plaque-type primary cutaneous lymphomas (PCLs) and investigates possible differences according to histologic subtypes. Orange structureless areas were identified as the strongest dermatoscopic predictor for PCLs, while unfocused linear vessels with branches and focal white structureless areas were associated with PCLs. Differences in the vascular pattern were also observed between B-cell and T-cell PCLs, as well as among B-cell PCL subtypes.
