Aim Menopause, considered a special event in a woman's life, has a wide age range, 4060 years, and there is no consensus regarding the factors influencing it. We aimed to assess factors affecting the menopausal age in a population of women participants of the Tehran Lipid and Glucose Study. Material and Methods For the present study, 1114 women were selected from among participants of the Tehran Lipid and Glucose Study. Following implementation of our inclusion criteria, their reproductive histories and demographic background as well as anthropometric parameters were assessed, and ordinal regression analysis was conducted using spss version 15. Results The mean estimated age at menopause +/- standard deviation was 49.6 +/- 4.5 years. Menopausal age was considerably lower among women with a history of smoking (P=0.05), and it increased with increasing age of menarche (P=0.04) and number of children (P=0.05). There was no significant correlation between the mean age of menopause and the educational level and anthropometric parameters. Conclusion The smoking status, parity and the age of menarche are the influencing factors of age at menopause among the Iranian population.

Summary: This study is the first to investigate the association of common MC4R SNPs with obesity-related parameters, revealing several SNPs that are associated with obesity indicators in Iranian adults. An interesting finding is a protective gene that helps combat obesity. Additionally, the MC4R risk score only affects BMI and waist circumference during early adulthood in the study.

Summary: There is no high-certainty evidence that diets alone improve health or reproductive outcomes in women with PCOS. However, supplementation with vitamin D, probiotics/synbiotics, omega-3, inositol, and curcumin has favorable effects on some metabolic outcomes.

Idiopathic hirsutism and dyslipidemia: A systematic review, meta-analysis, and meta-regressions

Mina Amiri, Leila Mahmoudieh, Ali Sheidaei, Fahimeh Ramezani Tehrani

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the lipid profiles in women with idiopathic hirsutism (IH) compared to those of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and healthy controls. The meta-analysis results showed that the levels of total cholesterol were slightly higher and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol were slightly lower in women with IH compared to healthy controls. There were no significant differences in the levels of triglyceride and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol between the study groups. The levels of lipid profiles were also not significantly different between women with IH and PCOS patients, except for triglyceride levels.

Summary: This study compared the prevalence, maternal and neonatal outcomes of a One-step with a Two-step approach for the screening and diagnosis of GDM. The results showed a significant difference in the diagnosis rate between the One-step and Two-step approach, but no significant difference in maternal and neonatal outcomes. These findings suggest caution should be exercised in adopting the One-step method worldwide.

Summary: This study compared the effect of breastfeeding (BF) in women with and without gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) on metabolic syndrome (MetS) incidence. The findings showed that BF, especially exclusive BF, has a protective effect on MetS incidence risk, and it is more effective in reducing the risk of MetS among women with a history of GDM.
