Summary: Hibernomas are rare benign tumors originating from fetal brown adipose tissue. They can occur in various parts of the body, with thigh, shoulder, back, and neck being the most common locations, and are rarely found in the abdominal cavity, retroperitoneum, breast, bones, scrotum, and perirectum. We present a case of a 58-year-old woman with a mediastinal mass, who was incidentally found to have an FDG-avid fat-containing lesion in the omentum abutting the stomach.

Summary: This study aimed to improve the statistical power in detecting changes in brain glucose metabolism, amyloid, and tau deposition in Alzheimer's disease studies by using a reference tissue-based quantification approach. The results showed that the tracer-specific reference tissue improved the detection of PET SUVR changes, which is beneficial for early diagnosis, disease progression monitoring, and therapeutic response in Alzheimer's disease.

Summary: This study evaluated the diagnostic accuracies of F-18-FDG PET or PET/CT for Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) through a systematic review and meta-analysis. The results showed that F-18-FDG PET/CT had excellent performance in diagnosing MCC and could be useful for exclusion and confirmation of the disease. Further large multicenter studies are needed to validate its diagnostic accuracy.

Summary: A 76-year-old man with yellowish discoloration of sclera and skin for 2 months was referred for F-18-FDG PET/CT to characterize a mass in the pancreas. PET/CT images showed intense FDG uptake in the head of the pancreas, with a lymph nodal mass in the hepatic hilar region, consistent with pancreatic malignancy. Histopathologic findings confirmed diffuse large B-cell lymphoma with no evidence of adenocarcinoma.

Summary: Differentiation of benign and malignant lesions in the head of pancreas is difficult via conventional imaging modalities when the mass is small. PET/MRI can distinguish them based on metabolism, providing a new approach for diagnosis.

Summary: A 45-year-old woman with a history of breast cancer underwent breast reconstruction surgery with silicone implant, and several years later, PET/CT scan revealed F-18-FDG-avid nodules in the area of the implant, in the right internal mammary chain, and in the contralateral breast. Biopsies confirmed the presence of silicone granulomas in both breasts, without any signs of malignancy. This case highlights the intense F-18-FDG uptake in silicone granulomas affecting the contralateral breast after implant reconstruction.

Summary: Contrary to common belief, F-18-FDG/F-18-choline dual-tracer PET behavior is not a relevant surrogate of tumor differentiation in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Future multitracer PET studies are necessary to improve our understanding of their biological significance in this field.

Summary: This study evaluated the diagnostic performance of dual-time-point PET/CT scan compared to conventional early imaging for detecting colorectal liver metastases in CRC patients. The results showed that delayed imaging had higher sensitivity and specificity, improving the detection of colorectal liver metastasis.

Summary: The new biomarker Dmax, which measures the maximal distance between the two farthest hypermetabolic PET lesions, has shown high accuracy as a prognostic factor in lymphoma patients. Most studies have demonstrated the significant predictive value of Dmax in predicting progression-free survival and overall survival.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the variability of [F-18]FDG-PET/LDCT reporting in suspected VGEI using a standardized reporting format. The results showed that less than half of the reports met all the pre-selected criteria, and the incompleteness of reports led to lower sensitivity and specificity.

Summary: This study aimed to examine brain metabolic patterns on [F-18]Fluorodeoxyglucose ([F-18]FDG) positron emission tomography (PET) in breast cancer (BC), comparing patients with tension-type headache (TTH), migraine (MiG), and those without headache. The results showed that headache patients exhibited hypometabolism in specific brain regions before neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) and headache patients with a good response to NAC showed hypermetabolic brain regions in the anterior medial frontal cortex.

Summary: The study found that patient education level significantly affected the success of bowel preparation. Split-dose bowel preparation can be more challenging to comprehend, and instructions should take into account the patient's education level. Specific intervention programs should be implemented to advise patients with lower education levels about the importance of proper preparation to prevent missed advanced neoplasias and subsequent procedures.

Summary: Medical students need more exposure to and understanding of their role in public health. A novel colorectal cancer education session was created to increase public health interest and improve knowledge. Surveys were conducted before and after the educational session to assess changes in interest, knowledge, and perceptions. The session received positive feedback and resulted in increased interest and knowledge, as well as identification of patient barriers to colorectal cancer screening.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the clinical performance measures of dialysis access in the ESRD QIP framework. The study found that AVF rates increased from 2014 to 2016 but declined thereafter, while long-term TDC rates initially decreased but increased beyond the target. Facilities in low-income and predominantly Black areas had lower AVF rates. Star ratings were positively correlated with AVF rates and negatively correlated with long-term TDC rates.

Summary: The incidence of secondary pulmonary infections (SPI) in hospitalized COVID-19 patients was 5%. Lower nadir lymphocyte count during hospitalization was associated with an increased risk of developing SPI. The levels of CRP and D-dimer on admission, and the peak levels of procalcitonin and CRP during hospitalization were higher in patients with SPI.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the incidence, etiology, risk factors, and outcomes of clinically significant gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding in COVID-19 patients. The results showed that peptic ulcer disease was the most common finding and the use of steroids, antiplatelet agents, and anticoagulation did not increase the risk of GI bleeding. The GI bleed group had longer hospital stays and higher levels of ICU care.

Summary: Prolonged air leak (PAL) after partial lung resection can be categorized into drainage-dependent PAL (DDPAL) and drainage-independent PAL (DIPAL). This study found that most PALs are DDPAL, and patients with DDPAL have shorter hospital length of stay and lower likelihood of requiring reexploration surgery compared to those with DIPAL.
