Summary: The thermal stability of a composition Zr60Co27Al13 was analyzed under both a monolithic amorphous state and symbiotic primary crystal-glass state. It was found that the symbiotic metallic glass is more stable than the monolithic metallic glass due to the consumption of short-range order clusters, relaxation in atomic dimensions, and more homogenous elemental distribution in the residual amorphous regions. This research may contribute to the development of metallic glasses with higher thermal stability.

Summary: Metallic glasses have short-range order but lack long-range order. The short-range order is mostly found in dominant clusters with higher local order metrics, while medium-range order is mainly represented by Bergman-type order centered on icosahedral clusters. With increasing length scale, the correlation between neighboring atoms decreases, including the icosahedral cluster network.

Summary: This study found that after ion implantation, helium did not migrate significantly in Zr and Cu-based metallic glasses, but mainly remained trapped in free volume sites. Additionally, samples implanted with lower doses of helium released more gas compared to those implanted with higher doses, and crystallized forms of BMGs released more helium than amorphous forms.

Summary: A family of novel Os-Co-Ta-B high-temperature bulk metallic glasses (HTBMGs) with high glass transition temperature, Vickers microhardness, and compressive strength was fabricated by introducing high-modulus refractory metal Os and strong-covalent metalloid B. The impressive strength is attributed to the strong bond characteristics especially for Ta-Os and B-B bonds. The castable OsCo-based HTBMGs with superior mechanical properties and high thermal stabilities are significant for high-temperature applications as advanced structural materials.

Summary: This study reports the long-term stability of a series of Cu-Zr MGs in natural environment after twelve years. MGs with low Zr content encounter severe instability due to room-temperature oxidation, while MGs with high Zr content have significantly changed thermal properties due to oxygen permeation.

Summary: The newly discovered color-changing metallic glasses can continuously and spontaneously change color under ambient conditions, mainly created by light interference and optical bandgap energy of the oxide layer. The unique qualities of these glasses, including continuous oxidation, uniform oxide layer thickness, and fast color-changing capabilities, are connected to the oxygen affinity of cerium, the glassy structure, and the yttrium dopant regulation. This work not only introduces a new direction for metal oxidation, but also highlights new applications for metallic glass.

Summary: The glass transition temperature of metallic glasses can be depressed by up to 40 K by reducing the sample size to below 10 & mu;m, allowing the attainment of glasses with low energy states. The properties of bulk metallic glasses are profoundly affected by reducing the sample size. By systematically reducing the length scale of gold and platinum-based metallic glasses, the vitrification behavior and atomic mobility were studied, revealing size-dependent vitrification kinetics in micrometer-sized glasses.

Summary: The bulk and surface dynamics of Cu50Zr50 metallic glass were studied using classical molecular dynamics simulations. The research found differences in dynamics between the surface and bulk during cooling, but their behaviors were very similar at their respective glass transition temperatures. The study also revealed a cage and jump mechanism dominating individual atom motion in the glassy state, with differences in activation energies for bulk and surface diffusion mainly attributed to cage-breaking barriers.

Summary: Laser powder bed fusion of CuTi-based bulk metallic glasses in the Vit101 system has been successfully achieved for the first time, surpassing the mechanical performance of most Zr-based BMGs. The study reveals that thermal stability has a minor role in producing amorphous specimens, while notch toughness is crucial for achieving defect-free parts with high mechanical performance. The results suggest a shift towards toughness-oriented optimization strategies for alloy development in the PBF-LB/M-process, departing from traditional casting-based glass forming ability optimization.

Summary: Thin film polyethylene oxide, produced by the thermal evaporation technique, exhibits structural and property differences compared to bulk polyethylene oxide. The dielectric constant of polyethylene oxide thin film is 10 times greater than that of bulk polyethylene oxide. There is consistency among dielectric constants, activation energies, and free volume fractions for both thin film and bulk samples. Polyethylene oxide thin film is observed to be more brittle than bulk polyethylene oxide.

Summary: Although molecular dynamics (MD) simulation is a powerful tool for investigating the atomic-scale structures of complex materials, its reliable and accurate application to multi-component glass systems faces challenges due to limited force fields (FFs) and the complexity of chemical environments. This study demonstrates the feasibility of efficient and accurate large-scale density functional theory (DFT) calculations for multi-component glass systems. The evaluation of classical FFs based on the results of large-scale DFT calculations reveals low accuracy for non-bridging oxygen atoms, and differences in Si-O-Si angle distribution and electronic structure for X = Mg.

Summary: In this study, vanadium oxide xerogel samples were successfully synthesized through a liquid phase reaction and the interaction of films with water. The samples were thoroughly analyzed using X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy, revealing the existence of two distinct phases. It was also discovered that previous misinterpretations regarding the high-pressure polymorph structure were due to the formation of a high-temperature phase. These findings highlight the potential for further refining and expanding the current structural models of vanadium oxide xerogel in future research efforts.
