Summary: Patients with epilepsy have milder characteristics of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), but because of the high coexistence of OSA and epilepsy, continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy can reduce the frequency of seizures. Therefore, it is important to evaluate the presence of OSA in patients with epilepsy and provide concurrent treatment.

Summary: The study revealed that obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) affects the biological clock, and long-term continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) treatment can partially restore normal clock function. However, the treatment does not fully reverse the impact on clock gene expression levels.

Summary: This study developed a mobile health tool that integrated weight loss features with novel CPAP adherence tracking for patients with OSA. The tool tracked CPAP wear time relative to time spent in bed and included push notifications to foster adherence. Future research is needed to evaluate the effectiveness of this tool in improving OSA treatment adherence.

Summary: Comparing polysomnography results of multilevel upper airway surgery and CPAP therapy, it was found that both methods have similar therapeutic effectiveness in treating obstructive sleep apnea. Surgery should be considered for patients with inadequate CPAP use.

Summary: Positive airway pressure treatment (CPAP) is the gold standard for obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS), but poor adherence rates are mainly caused by its invasive nature and related stigma. Psychosocial interventions have been implemented to increase CPAP adherence with promising results. This review summarizes the available data on the effectiveness of psychosocial interventions in increasing CPAP adherence and improving sleep quality. However, more studies are needed to further explore the relationship between psychosocial variables and CPAP adherence.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) on the urinary albumin-to-creatinine ratio (UACR) in patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and diabetic kidney disease (DKD). The results showed that CPAP treatment, in addition to usual care, significantly reduced UACR in patients who adhered to treatment. Furthermore, CPAP treatment also improved glycemic control, insulin resistance, sleepiness, and health-related quality of life.

Summary: Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) is an effective treatment for obstructive sleep apnea patients, and a predictive equation for CPAP in Thai patients was developed in this study, with neck circumference, body mass index, respiratory disturbance index, and lowest pulse oxygen saturation being significant factors in predicting the optimal pressure. The equation accounted for 50% of the variance in optimal pressure, providing insight into tailored CPAP therapy for Thai patients with OSA.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the association between CPAP usage and nasal symptoms in patients with obstructive sleep apnoea. The findings suggested that runny nose was a predictive factor for poorer CPAP adherence and worsened after three months of high-CPAP usage.

Summary: This study introduces WaveSleepNet, a deep neural network that utilizes wavelet transformed images to automatically score sleep and wake in mice. WSN shows promising performance compared to manual scoring, especially in mice with high levels of sleep fragmentation which leads to difficulties in differentiating REM from NREM sleep.

Summary: Emerging evidence suggests that obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a potential risk factor for preclinical Alzheimer's disease (AD). A workshop was conducted to summarize the current knowledge, identify research gaps, and suggest future directions. It is important to interpret cognitive screening tests cautiously in patients with OSA, and neuroimaging has limitations in measuring disease chronicity. Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) shows potential cognitive benefits, but the results vary across studies. OSA may have negative impacts on AD and other forms of dementia.
