Summary: Prediction is crucial for survival, and cognitive studies indicate that the brain can make multilevel predictions. However, neuronal evidence for predictions has been difficult to find due to the challenge of separating neural activity related to predictions from stimulus responses. In this study, we recorded single-neuron activity from auditory regions in both anesthetized and awake animals and observed reliable responses to omitted tones, providing empirical evidence for the implementation of predictive processes.

Summary: Primates have the ability to recognize features in various types of images, and this ability requires a comprehensive computational explanation. Researchers used machine learning algorithms to create highly activating prototype images that represent visual patterns stored by neurons. Monkeys were found to classify prototypes from visual cortex neurons as conspecifics more often than random generator images and prototypes from primary visual cortex, and their choices were partially predicted by convolutional neural networks.

Summary: In this study, the researchers investigated how sound and movement interact to modulate V1 visual responses in awake, head-fixed mice. They found that sound modulated the activity of a large percentage of light-responsive neurons, with most neurons increasing their activity in the presence of auditory stimuli. The study also revealed that sound and movement had distinct and complementary effects on neuronal visual responses, improving the decoding of visual stimuli from neuronal activity. Summary: This paper discusses the far-from-equilibrium evolution of φ(3) theory in 1 + 1 dimensions using temporal functional renormalization group, leading to novel one-loop exact equations for fully dressed correlation functions. The numerical computation of the dynamical propagator suggests self-similarity far from equilibrium in a restricted momentum regime. The scaling exponents for the solution, as well as the numerical satisfaction of energy and particle number conservation, are discussed, along with a simple exact representation of the expectation value of the energy-momentum tensor solely in terms of the propagator.

Summary: Previous functional imaging studies have found body-selective patches in the primate visual temporal cortex, however, the use of static images may have underestimated the extent of the body patch network. In this study, dynamic displays of natural-acting monkey bodies were used to map the full extent of the macaque body patch system. It was found that body patches were consistently present in both the lower and upper banks of the STS, and showed higher activation by dynamic displays compared to static images.

Summary: The study demonstrates that optogenetic inactivation of glutamatergic neurons in the superficial layers of monkey primary visual cortex induces robust suppression at the light-targeted site, but destabilizes stimulus responses in the neighboring, untargeted network. Different types of stimulus-evoked neuronal responses were identified within a cortical column, ranging from full suppression to facilitation, with mixed responses being most prominent in middle and deep cortical layers. Consistent behavioral changes induced by optogenetic inactivation were achieved when cumulative network activity was homogeneously suppressed, highlighting the importance of considering the full range of network changes outside the inactivated cortical region to avoid confounding interpretations of inactivation experiments.
