Summary: This study demonstrates the variability in sarcopenia prevalence estimates when different criteria are used. While population-specific criteria may be relevant for some populations, consensus is needed to determine the key deficits in skeletal muscle health for establishing an operational definition of sarcopenia.

Summary: This article examines the need to consider covariate-differential misclassification when estimating overall outcome prevalence. By generating datasets and comparing different estimation methods, it is concluded that assuming nondifferential outcome misclassification will yield little bias if the validation data is a simple random sample from the target population, otherwise including covariates in the estimation methods is necessary to obtain valid prevalence estimates.

Summary: Cross-cultural adaptation has a significant impact on individual development in different cultural environments. The cross-cultural reconstruction process of art scholars differs significantly from that of other groups due to their intense cultural intervention. However, there is insufficient research on their process. This study interviewed 29 contemporary Chinese artists living in Germany and proposed a new ladder theory using grounded theory. The ladder model provides a stronger explanation for the mechanism of art scholars' cross-cultural reconstruction process.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the prevalence of cultural malpractice during the perinatal period and identify its predictors among reproductive-age women in rural communities of southwestern Ethiopia. The results showed that 26.33% of women had food taboos during pregnancy, 31.88% delivered their last child at home, and 33.82% practiced pre-lacteal feeding. Lack of formal education, lack of ANC follow-up, rural residence, and avoiding colostrum were significantly associated with cultural malpractice during the perinatal period.

Summary: This study aims to investigate the prevalence and associated risk factors of malocclusions and temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) in isolated villages in north-eastern Italy. The findings reveal that Angle class I malocclusion is the most common, followed by class II malocclusion. Temporomandibular joint click/noise is the most prevalent TMD. Risk factors such as ankyloglossia and bruxism are associated with phonetic issues and TMJ click/noise and pain, respectively.

Summary: This study compared the sleep duration and disturbances of typically developing (TD) children and autistic children in the UK and South Korea. The results showed cultural differences in sleep patterns, with children in Korea having later bedtimes, later wake-up times, and shorter nocturnal sleep duration compared to their peers in the UK. Furthermore, greater sleep disturbances were reported in both TD and autistic children in Korea. The study also highlighted the importance of collecting data from multiple sources to understand children's sleep.

Summary: This study evaluated the structure and age-related stability of social attention in English and Arabic-speaking youth, comparing it among children with ASD, DD, and typically-developing controls. The findings suggest that social attention is a consistent, stable dimension across cultures, with females displaying higher levels compared to males. Developmental disabilities and ASD were associated with lower levels of social attention, highlighting the potential use of social attention measurement for monitoring development.

Summary: The objective of this study was to describe the trend in prescribing proton pump inhibitor (PPI) use and expenditure in both secondary and tertiary hospitals in China between 2017 and 2021. The study found that the rate of PPI prescribing decreased from 2017 to 2021 in both outpatient and inpatient settings. The usage and expenditure of injectable PPI showed a significant decrease, and the usage of oral PPI also slightly decreased. There were no statistical differences in PPI use and expenditure between secondary and tertiary hospitals.

Summary: This study aimed to examine the value of adding preoperative cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to bariatric surgery. Three- and five-year follow-up data showed that preoperative CBT did not result in better long-term weight loss, eating behaviors, eating disorders, depression, overall psychological health and quality of life compared to treatment-as-usual. Further exploration suggested that weight problems and depressive symptoms worsened in both groups at three and five-year follow-up.

Summary: This study found that the incidence of anorexia nervosa among 10- to 14-year-old girls has significantly increased over four decades, while the incidence of bulimia nervosa has remained stable. Sociocultural factors and the impact of social media may explain the increase in anorexia nervosa.
