Summary: Amomum villosum Lour. is a medicinal and edible plant. The stems and leaves of A. villosum, which are usually treated as waste, were found to contain various chemical components, including four undescribed compounds and 41 known compounds. Some of these compounds showed anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities, with the new compound 1 exhibiting significant antioxidant effect through the activation of NRF2/HO-1 pathways. Therefore, the stems and leaves of A. villosum may serve as a potential medicine or dietary supplement for preventing and treating diseases resulting from inflammation and oxidative stress.

Summary: Seven undescribed chemicals, including two syringylglycerol derivatives, two cyclopeptides, one tigliane analogue, and two chromone derivatives, were isolated from the stems of Limacia scandens during the screening of senotherapeutics from natural products. The structures of these compounds were determined through spectroscopic data analysis. Testing these compounds in replicative senescent human dermal fibroblasts revealed that one tigliane and two chromone derivatives exhibited senolytic activity, selectively eliminating senescent cells. In particular, 2-{2-[(3'-O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl) phenyl]ethyl}chromone showed potential as a senotherapeutic agent by inducing HDF death, inhibiting the activity of senescence-associated beta-galactosidase (SA-beta-gal), and expressing senescence-associated secretory phenotype (SASP) factors.

Summary: The effect-directed detection (EDD) was conducted to evaluate the pharmacological properties of Schisandra rubriflora fruit and leaves extracts. The results showed that both fruit and leaf extracts exhibited antioxidant activity, with stronger inhibition of lipase and tyrosinase by the leaf extracts, and slightly higher inhibition of alpha-glucosidase and acetylcholinesterase (AChE) by the fruit extract. UHPLC-MS/MS analysis indicated the presence of potential anti-dementia compounds in the bioactive fractions. Gomisin N, schisanhenol, gomisin G, schisandrin A, and gomisin O were the dominant compounds in the fruit extract.

Summary: The leaves of Ligustrum robustum, known as Ku-Ding-Cha, are commonly consumed in China for their heat-clearing and toxin-removing properties. They have also been used as a traditional medicine for hypertension, diabetes, and obesity. Phytochemical research on these leaves resulted in the discovery of several compounds with inhibitory effects on fatty acid synthase, alpha-glucosidase, alpha-amylase, and strong antioxidant activity. This study provides support for the use of Ligustrum robustum leaves as a functional tea for preventing diabetes and its complications.

Summary: Benzofluorene-containing atypical angucyclines are an important family of natural products with a wide range of antibacterial and cytotoxic properties. Interestingly, symmetric and asymmetric dimers have shown better activity than monomers in this class of compounds. The structural elucidation of nenestatin C (3) highlights the essential role of Nes18 in the biosynthetic pathway of nenestatin B (2), specifically in dimerization via C-C bond formation.
