Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the perinatal outcomes of pregnant individuals after bariatric surgery. The results showed that pregnancy after bariatric surgery is associated with a decreased risk of preeclampsia, gestational diabetes, and LGA neonates, but an increased risk of SGA neonates.

Summary: The associations between female obesity and adverse maternal and fetal outcomes have been extensively documented, including ovulatory dysfunction, delayed time to pregnancy, increased pregnancy loss, fetal anomalies, gestational diabetes, hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, preterm delivery, large for gestational age infants, and thromboembolic events. The role of preconception weight loss and its risk benefit ratio is uncertain, and the effects of obesity and preconception weight loss in males are less known.

Summary: This study analyzed 2,412,075 deliveries in Quebec, Canada between 1989 and 2019, finding that pregnant women with prior bariatric surgery have similar risks as nonobese women for most types of severe maternal morbidity, except for intensive care unit admission.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the association between pre-pregnancy BMI and severe maternal morbidity (SMM), perinatal death, and severe neonatal morbidity in twin pregnancies. The results showed little association between overweight or obese pregnant women and adverse outcomes, while underweight pregnant women had a higher risk of adverse outcomes, indicating a need for specific care.

Summary: This study compared maternal and perinatal clinical outcomes in obstetrics patients with COVID-19 between two waves of infection in Spain. Patients in the first wave had more symptoms, higher rates of maternal morbidity, caesarean section, and preterm birth, with a strong link between maternal morbidity and perinatal mortality. Differences in patient profiles and management were observed between the waves, showing fewer caesarean sections and reduced maternal and perinatal morbidity events in the second wave.

Summary: This study assessed the perinatal outcome of twin pregnancies with planned vaginal delivery according to chorionicity, and found that uncomplicated monochorionic twin pregnancies did not have a higher rate of composite intrapartum mortality and neonatal morbidity and mortality compared to dichorionic twin pregnancies.

Summary: Double diabetes, characterized by the coexistence of type 1 diabetes and insulin resistance/metabolic syndrome/obesity, is a common complication in pregnant women with type 1 diabetes. This study found that early pregnancy DDiab status was associated with maternal complications such as excessive gestational weight gain, gestational hypertension, preterm delivery, congenital malformations, and NICU hospitalization.

Summary: Pregnant women infected with SARS-CoV-2 have an increased risk of preterm birth, Cesarean delivery, and admission to the ICU for both the mother and the baby. However, there is no association between COVID-19 infection during pregnancy and perinatal or fetal death. Obesity is a risk factor for SARS-CoV-2 infection during pregnancy and for more severe cases of COVID-19 in pregnant women.

Summary: There is a high prevalence of domestic violence during pregnancy, with emotional abuse being the most common form and physical abuse declining. Predictors of abuse include nulliparity, younger age, and partner's alcohol consumption. Late prenatal booking, gestational hypertension, cephalopelvic disproportion, and fetal distress are associated outcomes.

Summary: Research findings suggest that the use of antibiotics during labor and delivery is not associated with an increased risk of autism spectrum disorder in offspring. This indicates that concerns about autism should not influence the decision to administer antibiotics during labor and delivery.

Summary: Among pregnant adolescents in an urban inner city, those aged <= 15 years have worse perinatal outcomes compared to older adolescents (16-19 years old) and older parents (20-34 years old), including higher rates of preterm birth and hypertensive disorders of pregnancy. Young adolescent parents also have a higher prevalence of obesity, which is associated with increased rates of severe preeclampsia and cesarean delivery compared to adolescents without obesity.

Summary: Primiparous women with obesity can safely and effectively receive midwifery care at freestanding birth centers with a low risk for cesarean birth. There were no significant differences in perinatal outcomes between women with obese BMIs and normal BMIs, with the majority of women with obese BMIs experiencing uncomplicated perinatal courses and vaginal births.

Summary: Pregnant women in British Columbia generally support the integration of preventive oral care into routine prenatal services, with the establishment of a referral system seen as an acceptable strategy for providing integrated prenatal oral health care. However, there are differing views on how this integration can be achieved, and limited funding is acknowledged as a barrier to oral health care access.

Summary: This review provides management guidelines for labor and birth for individuals with obesity and emphasizes methods for reducing cesarean birth risk. Research shows that a significant percentage of people in labor have obesity-related complications, which can be attributed to excessive adipose tissue producing adipokines that disrupt normal labor physiology and increase inflammation. However, individuals with obesity but without other comorbidities have high rates of uncomplicated pregnancies and lower cesarean section rates, especially if they are younger and have had previous children.

Summary: This study explored the views of health care providers in British Columbia on integrating preventive oral health into prenatal care. The major themes included perception of integrated care, strategies for achieving integrated prenatal oral health, drivers of the integration process, and barriers to integrating oral health during pregnancy. The results highlighted the importance of interprofessional collaboration as a critical factor for integrated care.
