Summary: This study presents a new solution to the substandard catalytic activity of two-dimensional silicon by synthesizing siloxene with an enhanced specific surface area and preparing a two-dimensional porous structure to support and disperse metal nanoparticles. Catalytic evaluations reveal that these hybrid structures outperform benchmark two-dimensional silicon structures in (photo)thermal CO2 hydrogenation and electrochemical hydrogen evolution reactions, indicating their considerable potential for advanced energy, catalytic, and environmental applications.

Summary: This article investigates the electron collection efficiency of a photomultiplier tube based on microchannel plates (MCP-PMT) and proposes a method to improve it by coating the MCP with a high secondary yield material. The performance of both coated and uncoated MCP-PMTs is compared using a relative measurement method. The results show that the PMT based on the coated MCPs has a significant improvement in electron collection efficiency, gain uniformity, and energy resolution.

Summary: In this study, electrochemically active, free-standing mesoporous films of nickel aluminate/multiwalled carbon nanotubes composite were successfully synthesized using an eco-friendly m-EISA process. The composite material annealed at 900 degrees Celsius exhibited a specific capacitance of 618 F g(-1). The m-EISA process was found to be eco-friendly, economical, and provided flexibility in regulating the final mesostructure of the free-standing films.

Summary: Dielectric breakdown etching is a common method for creating nanopores, but high-aspect-ratio nanopores can slow down the translocation of biomolecules. By optimizing the process parameters, it is possible to mass-produce single and array nanopores on a silicon device layer, with diameters around 12nm, suitable for single-molecule sensing applications.

Summary: In this study, the effect of oxygen functional groups on carbon nanotubes (CNTs) in Li-O-2 battery performance was confirmed by using CNTs as cathodes. By reducing the oxygen functional groups with ZnO coating, the overpotential during charging was decreased and the production of discharge product Li2O2 was increased. It was concluded that ZnO@CNT is a suitable cathode material for Li-O-2 batteries.

Summary: An electrochemical biosensor for detecting organophosphorus pesticides was developed by immobilizing acetylcholinesterase enzyme on porous silicon surface. The enzyme exhibited good activity in the presence of its substrate ATI, showing linear response over a wide concentration range. The sensor showed high affinity to ATI and a significant decrease in response in the presence of the pesticide malathion.

Summary: The modulated current (MC) technique is effective for effluent treatment, but it requires a longer electrolysis time. This issue can be addressed by using a turbulence promoter (TP) to enhance mass transfer and reaction rate. By considering the electrochemical active area (A(E)), the current applied in the MC mode can be accurately determined. The combination of MC and TP results in a significant reduction in energy consumption and improved current efficiency, as demonstrated in the degradation of a model organic compound.

This study specifically aims to improve the capacity and cycling stability of thin-film silicon buckypaper free-standing electrodes for lightweight and flexible energy-supply devices. By integrating high electrical conductivity with silicon materials, the study shows significant improvements in electrochemical performance.
