It has been discovered that neutrophils produce significantly higher levels of the Cxcl2 chemokine in response to live bacteria compared to killed bacteria or isolated bacterial components. This response requires three signals, with two of them being provided by signal peptides released by live bacteria.

Summary: This study developed nanodots called S-OSiNDs for rapid and accurate differentiation between live and dead cells. The S-OSiNDs can quickly and sensitively stain dead bacterial, fungal, and mammalian cells, while leaving live cells unaffected. In comparison to the commercial dye RedDot2, S-OSiNDs have a better staining effect on dead mammalian cells.

Summary: This study investigated the selection of reference genes in luffa under various abiotic stresses using qRT-PCR analysis, and validated their stability. EF-1 alpha was identified as the most stable overall reference gene, while UBQ, and TUB were suitable for specific stress treatments. The reliability of the selected reference genes was confirmed by analyzing the expression of a target gene in luffa.

Summary: We demonstrate the potential use of Blautia coccoides JCM1395(T) as a tumor-targeted live bacterial therapeutic. We developed a reliable quantitative analysis method for bacterial detection in biological tissues, overcoming the hindrance caused by the thick outer layer of peptidoglycans in Gram-positive bacteria. Using this method, we individually detected Blautia coccoides JCM1395(T) and Bacteroides vulgatus JCM5826(T) in tumors of mice receiving intravenous mixture injection. This simple and reproducible method, without genetic modification, can be applied to explore a wide range of bacterial species.
