These variants were shown to have an association with GBC and differential expression of MMP14 in GBC patients. Summary: This review article discusses the roles of Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) in dental and periodontal tissues, as well as their potential as biomarkers for diagnosis and treatment. The article provides insights into the involvement of MMPs in development, remodeling, degradation, and turnover of dental and periodontal tissues, and their signals in the pathogenesis and wound healing. The review identified 119 published papers, two textbooks, and two doctoral theses as the basis for the discussion. MMPs are seen as significant proteases with potential diagnostic and prognostic value. Understanding their role in dental and periodontal lesions and dentine-pulp wound healing is crucial for future diagnostic and therapeutic approaches.

Summary: The specificity loop of MMPs, particularly the S10-site, plays a crucial role in ligand binding and substrate recognition. MD simulations of apo-MMP-13 and its complexes with ligands revealed the involvement of specific residues, such as T247, in hydrogen bonding and van der Waals interactions with ligands. T247 also contributes to the formation of a hydrophobic surface that stabilizes ligands in the S1'-site of MMP-13. F252 residue exhibits flexibility to optimize ligand positioning in the S1'-site, but can form offset pi-pi or edge-to-pi stacking interactions upon ligand binding. H222 and Y244 facilitate offset pi-pi and pi-CH(C beta) interactions on either side of the ligand's phenyl ring, which is crucial for ligand binding to MMP-13.

Summary: Infection with Trypanosoma cruzi parasite can cause Chagas cardiomyopathy, the leading cause of heart failure in certain parts of America. However, there is currently no widely accepted biomarker to track the disease's progression. Research suggests that matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) may play a role in Chagas cardiomyopathy, leading to a growing interest in using MMP blood levels as diagnostic and prognostic indicators. The lack of consensus on the best method for evaluating MMPs has resulted in incongruent and poorly comparable data in Chagas patients.

Summary: The affibody molecules targeting TNF-alpha demonstrated binding to recombinant TNF-alpha for biochemical detection and blocking of TNF-alpha from binding to its receptor on MH7A synovial cells. These affibody molecules showed potential in decreasing inflammatory mediators production and inhibiting synovial cells proliferation, suggesting their application in biochemical analysis and pharmacotherapy for rheumatoid arthritis.

MT1-MMP directly cleaves ACE2 to release solACE2, thus facilitating cell entry of SARS-CoV-2.

Atherosclerosis and inflammatory cell infiltration play important roles in the formation and progression of AAAs. Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) have a central role in the ECM remodeling and cellular processes involved in AAAs. The use of selective MMP inhibitors shows promise in limiting AAA progression.
