Business
Anne S. Tsui, Peter McKiernan
Summary: This article discusses the nature of contemporary business and management research and emphasizes the principles of scientific freedom and responsibility. It highlights the limitations imposed on these principles by the recent context and practices. The article defines scientific freedom and responsibility and identifies four types of research, one of which aligns with the concept of responsible research proposed by RRBM. It suggests actions to promote responsible research and concludes with scientific norms for researchers to enhance the impact of their research.

Summary: The paper discusses Technology Assessment (TA), Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI), and Sustainability Research (SR) as manifestations of reflexive modernization in problem-oriented and transformative research. It aims to unfold the hypothesis regarding these approaches within reflexive modernization, clarify the meaning of 'reflexive' in each approach, identify commonalities and differences between them, and draw conclusions for their relation and further development.

Summary: Research on non-financial reporting practices has grown significantly in the past decade, intertwining with various fields of study. NFR is a comprehensive term that encompasses different types of reporting. The lack of a common standard has led to variations in NFR managerial practices worldwide. This study aims to summarize NFR practices and research by reviewing influential articles published between 2012 and 2020. It also offers methodological best practices for literature reviews using bibliometric analysis.

Summary: The research identified challenges in science communication in two Federal Institutes of Education in Brazil, with a lack of coordination between journalists, communicators, and researchers. Building better relationships, establishing a science communication plan, and overcoming internal barriers were highlighted as key challenges to be addressed. The results could inform science communication policies at institutional or even national levels.

Summary: Murray Sidman's book Tactics of Scientific Research is one of the most influential in the history of Behavior Analysis, presenting methods for investigating individual subject behavior. His observations and recommendations remain relevant and possibly even more important in light of the reproducibility crisis.

Summary: This study presents the views of 212 U.S.-based scientists on the governance of human genome editing research. Most scientists do not believe that scientists should self-govern human genome editing research due to conflicts of interest, the inevitability of rare bad apples, historical evidence to the contrary, and the limitations of scientific expertise. Scientists emphasize interdisciplinary professional and public input in governing human gene editing research.

Summary: Dissemination of research results and returning aggregate results to participants are beneficial practices, but health researchers, including genetic counselors, face barriers in reaching broad audiences. A survey of genetic counselors revealed their responsibility and value in disseminating research findings but also the lack of implementation in returning results to participants. Resource and knowledge barriers hinder research dissemination among genetic counselors. Formal training and guidelines specific to research dissemination will enhance their ability to reach wider audiences and maximize research impact.

Summary: Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder with a strong genetic component. Advances in genomic technologies have enabled researchers to identify genetic variations associated with ASD and to understand the genetic architecture of the disorder. Large-scale genetic analyses, including microarray and next-generation sequencing (NGS), have resulted in successful gene discovery and provided new insights into the neurobiology of ASD.

Summary: Sperm motility and fertilization potential rely on the flagellum and ion channels located on the surface of the sperm cells. This review focuses on the known genetic alterations in humans and additional ion channels identified in mice that affect sperm ion transporters and channels. The potential therapeutic implications for asthenozoospermia and male contraception are also discussed.

Summary: The three fruitfly species of the Drosophila simulans clade have been important models in speciation genetics for over 40 years. They exhibit reproductive isolation due to various factors and hybrid male sterility has been a key focus of genetic scrutiny. The genetic conflicts, polygenic nature, and role of gene flow in speciation have challenged classical views of speciation.
