Summary: This study analyzed the concentrations, d15N, and sources of NH4 (+) in PM2.5 samples collected from six cities in the North China Plain. The results showed significant variations in the concentrations and delta N-15 of NH4 (+) among the sites, with non-agricultural sources being the main contributors on polluted days.

Summary: Two rivers in Taiwan, the polluted Danshuei River and non-polluted Liwu River, were studied to investigate the behavior of molybdenum (Mo) isotopes during weathering and riverine transport. The study found that the Mo isotope composition in the Danshuei River is lighter during the wet season and heavier in the dry season, while the Liwu River shows a heavier Mo isotope composition along its mainstream. The analysis also identified different sources of Mo in the Danshuei River, including seawater intrusion, rock-water interaction, and anthropogenic inputs.

Summary: This study investigates the environmental mechanisms controlling precipitation distribution in the Indian Monsoon and the southwest coast of India using stable isotope ratios. The results show that the isotopic composition of rainwater is influenced by factors such as evaporation and moisture recycling. The study also reveals the importance of regional moisture circulation in regulating atmospheric water balance.

Summary: Nitrate (NO3-) is recognized as the most important water-soluble ion in fine particulate matter (PM2.5) and a driving factor for regional haze formation. The study found that nitrate concentrations increased with PM2.5 levels throughout the year, and different formation pathways were observed in cold months compared to warm months.

Summary: This study investigates the behavior of lithium and its isotopes in the Ebro River basin, indicating that evaporite weathering plays a crucial role in controlling lithium concentrations. The influence of anthropogenic agricultural and industrial activities on lithium concentrations is minimal. The ratios of Na/Li, Cl/Li, and SO4/Li reflect the types of dissolved salts in different tributaries, with the Ebro River being a mixture of all tributaries.

Summary: Analysis of surface water and groundwater samples in the Jinan spring catchment revealed that sulfate mainly originates from evaporite dissolution, sewage, soil sulfate, and sulfide oxidation. The study also found that in groundwater, sulfate is primarily derived from soil sulfate and sewage.

Summary: The study reported the impact of the Clean Air Action on the chemical components of atmospheric fine particulate matter in the North China Plain, especially on secondary inorganic aerosols. The results showed significant decreases in PM(2.5) concentration and its chemical components, as well as a reduction in polluted days during the observation period.

Summary: This study investigated the impacts of different tillage practices on soil carbon storage and CO2 emissions in the North China Plain using C-13 isotopic signature. The results showed that no-tillage (NT) had lower CO2 emissions compared to conventional tillage (CT), and NT facilitated enhanced soil carbon storage. This was attributed to the increased soil microbial carbon and nitrogen as well as soil moisture in NT, which inhibited soil respiration.

Summary: An ensemble machine learning model was developed and evaluated for tropical cyclone track forecasts over the Western North Pacific. The experimental results show that the model outperforms the frequently used CLIPER model with relatively small forecast errors and improved forecast skills at three forecast times. Overall, the presented study demonstrates the potential of the GBDT model in providing reliable evidence and guidance for operational TC track forecasts.

Summary: Identifying nitrate sources and their temporal evolution is crucial for sustainable groundwater management. This study used groundwater dating, chemical and stable isotope analyses to understand nitrate sources and contamination mechanisms. The findings provide valuable insights for managing nitrate pollution in regions undergoing rapid urbanization and agricultural intensification.

Summary: The study reveals an increase in dissolved oxygen concentration in the North China Plain river network region over the past decade, negatively correlated with nutrients such as CODCr and TN, mainly affected by nonpoint source pollution and urbanization. Water quality in suburban rivers is better than in urban rivers. Loss of riparian buffer, river solidification, pollutant input, and sluice dam operations are key factors influencing water quality deterioration.

Summary: The study of fluids from major geothermal fields in N/NE Greece shows distinct differences in hydrochemical and isotopic characteristics, indicating different source fluids and magmatic processes. The western geothermal systems are influenced by volatiles released from subducted marine sediments, while the eastern systems exhibit a mixture of crustal and mantle-derived volatiles.

Summary: Groundwater discharge and river runoff are important pathways for allochthonous dissolved organic matter (DOM) to enter the South China Sea. The source, composition, and efflux of DOM from these sources remains poorly understood. This study conducted analysis along the coast of western Guangdong and found that groundwater DOM mainly originates from microbial activities, while river water DOM has a considerable contribution from terrestrial soil. The findings emphasize the importance of considering groundwater discharge and river runoff in coastal carbon budgets.

Summary: This study investigates the concentration, distribution, ecological and human health risks, and potential sources of antibiotics in groundwater in the Hutuo River alluvial-pluvial fan, North China Plain. The results show the presence of antibiotics in groundwater, primarily originating from livestock manure, posing medium ecological risks to aquatic organisms but no risks to human health.

Summary: This study investigates the sources of nitrous acid (HONO) and its seasonal variation in a rural area of the North China Plain. The results show that HONO levels are higher in winter compared to summer and autumn. The main sources of HONO are heterogeneous conversion and homogeneous reaction, with a minor contribution from other sources. In addition, an additional HONO source is found in summer, possibly from fertilized fields.
