Summary: A new method for deuterating (hetero)aryl bromides using Ag2CO3 as catalyst and D2O as deuterium source is disclosed in this study, which is highly efficient and easy to manipulate. In comparison to traditional multistep syntheses, this method allows for one-step deuterium labeling of various bioactive druglike molecules and key intermediates of functional materials. Additionally, this method demonstrates unique site-selectivity in comparison to existing transition-metal-catalyzed processes, leading to multideuterated (hetero)aryl bromides in one step.

Summary: This study presents a highly efficient and easily manipulated palladium-catalyzed H/D exchange protocol for the synthesis of beta-deuterated N-protected amino amides, which can be converted to beta-deuterated amino acids by removing protecting groups. The use of pivalic acid as an additive also promoted the successful deuterium labeling of phenylalanine derivatives.

Summary: We developed a platinum-catalyzed deuteration reaction using deuterium oxide as a deuterium source, which selectively deuterated tert-allylic alcohols with good deuterium content. The obtained deuterium-labeled allylic alcohols were further transformed into various deuterium-labeled building blocks without degradation of the original deuterium content.

Summary: This study reports a ligand-free, palladium-catalyzed ortho-deuteration of aromatic carboxylic acids using D2O as the deuterium source. Compared to their meta-substituted analogues, a remarkably lower reactivity in para- and ortho-substituted benzoic acids towards hydrogen isotope exchange was observed. Further investigation showed that the reaction temperature is a critical parameter for the reactivity, and the modified conditions can achieve deuterated products with good to excellent deuterium incorporation.

Summary: A regioselective deuteration at the beta- and gamma-position of pyridines is achieved by using a combination of (KOBu)-Bu-t and DMSO-d(6), replenishing the prevailing alpha-deuteration of the pyridine systems. Preliminary mechanistic studies suggest that the dimsyl carbanion acts as one of the key intermediates.

Summary: NMR spectroscopy was employed to investigate the hydrogen-deuterium exchange in ketones dissolved in mixtures of solvents with catalysts. Factors such as solvents, temperature, and concentration were found to affect the efficiency of exchange. Certain ionic liquids exhibited significant catalytic properties and could achieve high degrees of deuteration.

Summary: Deuteration of polymeric nanofibers using deuterated solvents led to improved thermal and mechanical properties, as well as increased crystallinity. The partial exchange of amide linkages in PAs due to deuteration resulted in higher melting and glass transition points, along with substantially enhanced Young's moduli and tensile strengths of the NF sheets.

Summary: C-H deuteration is an important method for site-selectively deuterating organic frameworks, and its significance in pharmaceutical chemistry has been recognized. Deuterium labelled compounds have gained attention due to their pharmacological importance, and hydrogen isotope exchange (HIE) is the most common and efficient method for site-selective deuteration.

Summary: This study proposes an efficient separation of Au(iii)/Pd(ii)/Pt(iv)/Rh(iii) using a cloud point extraction system with 2-mercaptobenzothiazole-functionalised ionic liquid ([C(6)mim][2MBT]). The direct cloud point extraction of Au(iii) was achieved without any functionalised ionic liquids. Addition of [C(6)mim][2MBT] greatly enhanced the extraction performance of Pd(ii). However, preconcentration of Pt(iv) and Rh(iii) required the addition of stannous chloride, which can be adjusted by changing the hydrochloric acid concentration.

Summary: This study investigated the adsorption of chloromethanes and hydrogen on metal clusters of Pd, Pt, Rh, and Ru using molecular simulation. The results showed that dissociative adsorption of chloromethanes is promoted on the zero-valent metal sites while non-dissociative adsorption is favored on the electro-deficient sites. The dechlorination ability followed the order Ru > Rh > Pt > Pd, while hydrogenation ability decreased from Pd and Pt to Rh and Ru. Catalysts with high proportion of zero-valent metal species supported on CeO2-Sm2O3 exhibited outstanding performance in the hydrodechlorination of chloromethanes.

Summary: In this study, various bromophenylalkenes were reductively photodebrominated using DMBI and 9,10-dicyanoanthracene, with satisfactory to excellent isotopic yields achieved with deuterated DMBI analogs. DMBI-d(11) was the most effective analog, and it could also be regenerated from the reaction mixtures with a recovery rate of up to 50%. The combination of photodebromination reaction with conventional methods for bromoalkene synthesis allows for sequential monodeuteration of a double bond without the necessity of a metal catalyst.

Summary: Catalytic combustion is the most promising option to reduce the concentration of hydrogen isotopes and minimize safety hazards when hydrogen isotopes are present in a stoichiometric ratio of 2:1 with oxygen in an inert gas. This study analyzes the multi-step reaction mechanism of catalytic combustion of hydrogen with a platinum catalyst and proposes a rate expression for the process conditions of catalytic combustion of deuterium. Experimental data is generated to estimate the rate constant, activation energy, and frequency factor for the present catalyst.
