Summary: This study found differential expression of serum metabolites and pathways between Arabic subjects with obesity and metabolic syndrome compared to subjects with obesity only. Lipids, including sphingomyelin, were significantly decreased in the group with metabolic syndrome. Non-lipid metabolites, such as quinolinate, kynurenine, and tryptophan, were also decreased in the group with metabolic syndrome. Metabolites and pathways associated with chronic inflammation were found to be dysregulated in subjects with metabolic syndrome.

Summary: Eye diseases are linked to visual impairment and reduced quality of life. Current treatments for these diseases are not satisfactory, highlighting the need for new therapeutic approaches. Matrix metalloproteinases and tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinases play crucial roles in eye diseases.

Summary: Metabolic syndrome is diagnosed using clinical criteria such as abdominal fat accumulation, high blood pressure, insulin resistance, and abnormal blood lipids. Sphingolipids in plasma can be used as a biochemical support for the diagnosis of metabolic syndrome. The study found that certain sphingolipids were significantly higher in individuals with metabolic syndrome. Regression analysis showed significant associations between these sphingolipids and waist circumference, blood pressure, insulin resistance, HDL, and TG.

Summary: The study evaluated the effect of Arthrospira liquid extract Spirulysat (R) on oxidative markers and isoprostanes, as well as its impact on lipid and glucose metabolism in patients with metabolic syndrome. The results showed that Spirulysat (R) did not alter the oxidized LDL (oxLDL)/LDL ratio, but it reduced urinary isoprostanes, decreased plasma triglycerides, and increased HDL cholesterol, suggesting a beneficial effect on metabolic syndrome.

Summary: Metabolic Syndrome (MetS) poses a global public health concern, increasing the risk of cardiovascular diseases and type 2 diabetes. Fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) for MetS can impact the gut bacteriophage community, with better clinical outcomes associated with similarity to healthy donors. Identified bacteriophage groups may help explain differences in treatment response.

Summary: Metabolic syndrome (MetS) increases the risk of cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes mellitus, and cancer. This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of an intensive lifestyle program in reducing the prevalence of MetS in adults with obesity. The results showed that implementation of the IGOBE program resulted in a significant reduction in MetS prevalence and better control of MetS features compared with the standard of care.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of a citrus extract rich in citrus flavonoids on intestinal metabolic responses in subjects with features of metabolic syndrome. The results showed that continuous supplementation of citrus extract increased short-chain fatty acids levels in vitro and in vivo, and may have potential benefits on intestinal inflammation.

Summary: This study found that cholesterol and oxidized metabolites in adipose tissue are associated with metabolic characteristics. Insulin is positively correlated with hydroxycholesterol, and leptin is also positively correlated with hydroxycholesterol. There is a positive correlation between tissue cholesterol and hydroxycholesterol.

Summary: This study found that intraperitoneal VAT (IVAT) and retroperitoneal VAT (RVAT) are differently associated with the prevalence of metabolic syndrome (MS) and its components. IVAT area index was independently associated with MS and its components, while RVAT area index was only associated with the blood pressure component.

Summary: Childhood obesity and T2DM are on the rise due to changes in lifestyle and dietary habits, leading to urgent need for novel solutions to improve global public health. The dysbiosis of gut microbiota has been associated with MetS, a health condition linked to diseases including T2DM. While there have been advances in understanding gut microbiota-host interactions, research on pediatric gut microbiota lags behind that of adults.

Summary: A 12-year study comparing outcomes of Roux-en-Y bariatric surgery showed long-term weight loss and remission of diabetes, hypertension, and dyslipidemia. However, metabolic markers did not completely normalize for post-surgical patients, suggesting further weight loss may be needed for normalization.
