Summary: The study found that older adults who engaged in physical activity and were physically robust with normal cognition had the lowest risk of mortality, while those who were inactive and had frailty/pre-frailty or cognitive impairment had a higher risk of mortality. Individuals with both frailty/pre-frailty and cognitive impairment had the highest risk of mortality.

Summary: The gender difference in the impact of cognitive impairment on all-cause mortality in the general population was investigated. The study found that cognitive impairment is associated with a higher risk of all-cause mortality in older women compared to men, even after adjusting for sociodemographic factors.

Summary: A study found that cognitive impairment is associated with all-cause mortality in hemodialysis patients, especially in the executive and memory cognitive domains. These findings suggest that detecting impairments in these cognitive domains may help in the early identification of hemodialysis patients at risk of death.

Summary: Frailty transitions are more common in participants with PRISm or COPD, and physical frailty assessment improves risk stratification for predicting increased life years in patients with impaired spirometry.

Summary: Dementia is associated with higher rates of admission and mortality in hospitals. This retrospective study aimed to investigate the impact of dementia on in-hospital mortality and identify the predictors of mortality in these patients. The study compared the clinical outcomes of dementia patients and non-dementia patients at admission to the Emergency Department.

Summary: This study found a high prevalence of delirium in older patients admitted with COVID-19, with preexisting cognitive impairment as the main risk factor for developing delirium. Delirium was associated with significantly higher in-hospital mortality among these patients.

Summary: Vulnerability increases mortality in hospitalized older patients, regardless of COVID-19 status. In nonhospitalized patients, vulnerability-associated excess mortality is milder in individuals with COVID-19. The disease reduces survival even when background risk is low.

Summary: The study showed that a 40-week multifactorial intervention had slight effects on the inflammatory and physical function of frail older participants, with the ME plus BCAAs group showing improvements in cognitive profile, muscle strength, and reduction in inflammation levels.

Summary: Frailty in older adults, especially when combined with other health domains such as cognitive, psychological, and social aspects, can predict adverse outcomes including institutionalization and mortality. The risk of negative health outcomes increases with frailty in a higher number of domains, and specific combinations of frailty domains have varying effects on outcomes.

Summary: This study found that hearing impairment is a risk factor for cognitive decline and all-cause mortality in older adults. Older adults with hearing impairment had a higher risk of all-cause mortality compared to those without hearing impairment. Additionally, older adults with both hearing impairment and cognitive impairment had an even greater risk of mortality.

Summary: This study investigated the rates of and risk factors associated with neurocognitive impairment (NCI) among middle-aged and older people living with HIV in Lima, Peru. The prevalence of NCI was found to be high in this population, with many individuals experiencing difficulties with attention and working memory. Co-infections such as latent syphilis, hepatitis B infection, or pulmonary tuberculosis may increase the risk of NCI among middle-aged and older individuals with HIV in Peru.

Summary: This study investigated the association between resting respiratory rate (RRR) and all-cause mortality among older outpatients. The results showed that RRR was independently associated with all-cause mortality. This suggests that RRR may be a simple and important predictor, deserving further study in older populations and different settings.
