Summary: This study determined the cut-off values of BASDAI for determining disease activity states in ankylosing spondylitis patients. The study found that BASDAI values of 1.9, 3.5, and 4.9 corresponded to ASDAS-CRP values of 1.3, 2.1, and 3.5, respectively. The agreement between disease activity states based on BASDAI and ASDAS-CRP cut-off values was good.

Summary: Although cancer itself does not normally act as an infectious agent, there have been cases of transmissible cancers in Tasmanian devils, dogs, and several bivalve species. While the transmission route of bivalve transmissible neoplasia (BTN) has not been confirmed, it is hypothesized that cancer cells from bivalves could be released by diseased animals and spread through the water column.

Summary: Aliarcobacter butzleri is an emerging gastrointestinal pathogen. This study analyzed the genomes of 30 resistant A. butzleri isolates to propose specific epidemiological cut-off values for certain antibiotics. The findings contribute to the development of a consensus for antimicrobial susceptibility testing for this pathogen.

Summary: This study examines the three-dimensional structure and evolution of the 200 most intense Cut-off Lows (COLs) in the Southern Hemisphere (SH). The results show a well-defined tropospheric moist cold core co-located with warm dry air in the lower stratosphere, surrounded by regions of strong temperature gradients (frontal zones) which move downstream throughout the life cycle. Precipitation is related to relative vorticity and precipitable water, with maximum precipitation observed during decay.

Summary: This study collected 422 gut-derived bifidobacterial strains from the Chinese population and determined their phenotypic resistance profiles against ten commonly used antibiotics. Different Bifidobacterium species exhibited varying tolerances to the same antibiotic, leading to the establishment of species-specific cut-off values for the determination of phenotypic resistance. In addition, a comprehensive scanning of antibiotic resistance genes revealed the association between the tetracycline resistance gene tet(W), erythromycin/clindamycin resistance gene ErmX, and host phenotypes. These findings provide guidance and reference values for the safe application of bifidobacteria in the food industry and the development of probiotic resistance evaluation standards.

Summary: The study found that in healthy subjects, the values of lipid accumulation product (LAP) increased with age, while the values did not vary with age in patients with hypertension. Summary: This study aimed to determine the equivalent cut-off values of BASDAI for discriminating disease activity corresponding to ASDAS cut-off values, and to determine the equivalent change units for determining the clinically improvement between dBASDAI and dASDAS-CRP. The results showed that BASDAI values 1.6, 2.9 and 3.8 corresponded to ASDAS-CRP values 1.3, 2.1 and 3.5, respectively. The dBASDAI values 1.6 and 2.0 best corresponded to dASDAS-CRP values 1.1 and 2.0, respectively.

Summary: This study compared the cut-off points for low grip strength in assessing sarcopenia between the European Working Group on Sarcopenia in Older People (EWGSOP) and a large German sample. The results showed that the German sample had cut-off points that were 2 kg higher than the EWGSOP2 cut-off points. Using higher cut-off points increased the sensitivity, suggesting intervention for more patients at risk, but also potentially leading to unnecessary diagnostics/treatment for others without immediate need.

Summary: The abuse of antibiotics in aquaculture has led to an increasing threat to environmental and human health due to the rising antibiotic resistance of aquatic bacteria. This study determined the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of eight antimicrobial agents against Aeromonas strains, and established tentative cut-off values (COWT) for this bacteria species. The obtained COWT values can contribute to the establishment of international COWT for Aeromonas.
