A copper based oxygen carrier prepared by impregnation on a highly porous alumina support (14.2 wt% active CuO) has been tested in a 120 kW chemical looping pilot plant. This oxygen carrier has already been under investigation in other pilot plants up to 10 kW fuel power and showed very good performance, i.e. full fuel conversion was achieved. During the experiments, natural gas has been used as fuel and variations of several process parameters like temperature, fuel power, solids inventory and solids circulation rate have been performed. The copper particles showed good performance regarding conversion of CO and H-2 (almost full conversion) but only moderate conversion of CH4 (up to 80%) was achieved. The three process parameters fuel reactor temperature, solids circulation between air and fuel reactor and solids inventory have been identified as significant parameters for fuel conversion, i.e. increasing one of these parameters improves fuel conversion. Continuous analysis of the oxygen carrier particles revealed an initial decay of active CuO content caused by attrition on the external surface of the particles. The CuO content stabilized after 30 h of operation at around 9 wt% and no further decrease was observed. (C) 2015 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Summary: The study investigated wall-to-bed heat transfer in a cross-flow bubbling fluidized bed with continuous solids exchange. Results showed that increasing gas velocity leads to more heat being transported from the probe to the particles, while arranging the tubes more densely in the bed results in less heat transfer.

Summary: The combination of chemical-looping combustion (CLC) and steam methane reforming (SMR) is a promising method for CO(2) capture and hydrogen production. By optimizing the dimensions of the SMR tube, it is possible to improve the performance and reduce the necessary tube length. Simulation results show that using smaller tube diameters can significantly decrease the required tube length for equivalent gas conversion.

Summary: A standardized method was developed to evaluate the availability of solar energy resources in road areas, which combined the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and the Geographic Information System (GIS). By analyzing critical factors and using a multi-indicator evaluation method, the method accurately evaluated the utilization of solar energy resources and guided the optimal location selection for road photovoltaic (PV) projects. The results provided guidance for the application of road PV projects and site selection for route corridors worldwide, promoting the integration of transportation and energy.

Summary: In this paper, a coordinated charging price mechanism for clusters of parking lots is proposed. The research shows that enabling vehicle-to-grid characteristics can bring significant economic benefits for users and the cluster coordinator, and vehicle-to-grid impacts noticeably on the risk-averse character of the uncertainty-aware strategies. The developed pricing mechanism can reduce the cost for users, avoiding to directly translate the energy cost to charging points.

Summary: Electrochemical water splitting is crucial for hydrogen production, and improving the hydrogen separation rate from the electrode is essential for enhancing water electrolyzer performance. However, issues such as air bubble adhesion to the electrode plate hinder the process. Therefore, a methodology to investigate the two-phase flow within the electrolyzer is in high demand. This study proposes using a microfluidic system as a simulator for the electrolyzer and optimizing the two-phase flow by manipulating the micro-structure of the flow.

Summary: In this study, a novel hybrid Quantile Regression (QR) model is proposed for Probabilistic Load Forecasting (PLF). The model integrates causal dilated convolution, residual connection, and Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory (BiLSTM) for multi-scale feature extraction. In addition, a Combined Probabilistic Load Forecasting System (CPLFS) is proposed to overcome the inherent flaws of relying on a single model. Simulation results show that the hybrid QR outperforms traditional models and CPLFS exceeds the best benchmarks in terms of prediction accuracy and stability.
