Summary: The valorization and utilization of industrial food processing waste is important for improving sustainability and reducing waste management costs. Characterization of different food waste streams revealed their physico-chemical characteristics and elemental composition. The study found that certain food waste types can be efficiently converted into valuable products, such as acetone, biogas, and biodiesel. A model was developed to guide waste management and analysis of cost and environmental impact.

Summary: In this study, a rapid and eco-friendly method for the degradation and valorization of feather waste using keratinase-producing Pseudomonas geniculata H10 was investigated. The results revealed that strain H10 could completely degrade chicken feathers within 48 hours and produce high levels of amino acids. The keratinase exhibited optimal temperature and pH conditions, as well as stability and degradation capability for various insoluble keratins.

This study explores the potential of up-cycling ginger waste as a valuable product due to its rich content of bioactive compounds. These compounds, such as shogaol, zingerone, and gingerols, contribute to the pungency and aroma of ginger and possess antimicrobial, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties, with benefits for skin health and the digestive system. This review discusses the composition, functionality, medicinal properties, bioactivity, and health-promoting attributes of ginger waste, as well as its potential applications in the development of functional and nutraceutical products.

Summary: This paper reviews the current progress of recycling and reuse of waste silk, which is a result of the improvements in living standards and the throw away culture of mankind. The utilization of waste silk in various applications, such as energy, fabric, composites, skincare, biological tissue engineering, filtration, and electronics, is explored. The modification, optimization, and application of regenerated silk fibroin extracted from waste silk show great potential for industrialization and sustainable development. Furthermore, making waste silk functional and intelligently wearable provides two promising ways for recycling waste silk with low cost and high return value. The recovery and utilization of waste silk serve as a paradigm for valorization of other fiber-based waste materials.

Summary: This study proposes a sustainable method to produce pectin and phenolic compounds from pistachio industrial waste and utilize them in low-phenylalanine cookies. The optimized conditions yield a pectin content of 15.85% and a total phenolic content of 10.12%. The resulting pectin exhibits high esterification, galacturonic acid-rich composition, and thermal stability, while the phenolic extract demonstrates significant antiradical activity. The addition of pectin and extract enhances the moisture content, specific volume, antioxidant properties, and sensory evaluation scores of the cookies without increasing phenylalanine content.

While industrial processes for terrestrial biomass are well established, marine sources remain untapped. Summary: Various wastes generated by mineral processing activities pose significant ecological and health problems. This study presents a symbiotic solution to address these issues by recovering valuable boron products from boron wastes while also sequestering CO2. The study found that temperature, solid-to-liquid ratio, and time were effective parameters for CO2 utilization, while stirring speed and particle size had minimal impact.
