Summary: Human neutrophils, as professional phagocytes, express several G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) that are essential for their functions. Recently, the FFA receptors, GPR84 and FFA2, have attracted attention for their involvement in neutrophil activation. This review summarizes the current understanding of how GPR84 affects human neutrophil functions and discusses the regulatory mechanisms, comparing them to the two FPRs and FFA2.

Summary: Epidemiological studies have shown a link between ambient particulate matter exposure and vascular diseases. The research revealed that exposure to ambient PM led to increased cell migration ability in vascular smooth muscle cells and pulmonary arterial smooth muscle cells. Additionally, the study demonstrated that PM induced intracellular reactive oxygen species, activated the NF-kappa B signaling pathway, and increased expression of proinflammatory cytokines in VSMCs. Polyphenolic compounds like curcumin, resveratrol, and gallic acid were found to prevent PM-induced migration by blocking the ROS-dependent NF-kappa B signaling pathway in VSMCs.

Summary: CnA alpha deficiency stimulates Nox2 upregulation, and NF-kappa B serves as a novel CnA alpha-regulated transcription factor that mediates Nox2 and ROS regulation. These findings suggest potential for selective CNIs to improve long-term outcomes by mitigating renal side effects.

Summary: The roasted mixture of Schisandra chinensis and Lycium chinense showed enhanced antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects in macrophage cells, as well as protecting against alcohol-induced liver injury in mice. This suggests that the combination of the two herbs could have a synergistic effect in preventing alcoholic liver damage.

Summary: NOX5 is the latest member of the NOXs family, which differs from the others in terms of specific characteristics. Its activity is regulated by the intracellular concentration of Ca2+ due to the presence of four Ca2+ binding domains. NOX5 generates superoxide using NADPH as a substrate and modulates functions involving reactive oxygen species. This modulation can have detrimental or beneficial effects depending on the level of ROS produced. The function of NOX5 is still poorly characterized, and further research is required due to its absence in rodents and the lack of knowledge about human NOX5 protein.

Summary: SAMHD1 restricts HIV-1 replication by limiting the intracellular dNTP pool and suppresses NF-kappa B activation. This suppression is modulated by TRAF6 and TAK1, which play key roles in mediating the negative regulation of the NF-kappa B pathway by SAMHD1.

Summary: Mastitis is a common and important clinical disease in ruminants, which may lead to inflammatory fibrosis if not promptly treated. This study found that Snail plays a critical role in LPS-induced EMT in GMECs, and the mechanism is dependent on the activation of the TLR4/NF-kappa B signaling pathway.
