Summary: TLRs are pattern recognition receptors that can distinguish between commensal and pathogenic bacteria, with TLR2/6 triggering cytokine responses to Gram-positive and Gram-negative pathogens. Different commensal Gram-positive bacteria may have varying requirements for TLR2-dependency in triggering macrophage cytokine responses.

Summary: This study investigated the composition of the teleost gallbladder microbiota and its potential role in mucosal immunity. The results showed that the gallbladder microbiome was similar to the gut microbiota. Infection induced inflammation and disrupted microbial homeostasis in the gallbladder. Beneficial bacteria from the Lactobacillales order increased in abundance in the bile microbial community, while the structure of the Mycoplasmatales order in the gut microbial community changed significantly.

Summary: In the last decade, CRISPR/Cas9 has been proven to be an effective and efficient method for targeted mutagenesis in genetic model systems. Its high efficiency allows the immediate generation of near-null mosaic mutants, making it valuable for organisms with life histories that preclude the establishment of purebred genetic lines. In the study, the successful use of CRISPR/Cas9 mutagenesis in a non-teleost fish, sterlet Acipenser ruthenus, was reported, indicating the potential for applying this technology to other long-lived, slow-maturing aquatic vertebrates.

Summary: The study conducted a meta-analysis on transcriptomic data from mice, rats, and humans, identifying a transcriptomic signature of ageing across species and tissues. The analysis revealed overexpression of immune and stress response genes and underexpression of metabolic and developmental genes in different tissues, along with little overlap between genes differentially expressed with age in different tissues. Additionally, it was found that ageing gene expression signatures in the brain and muscle tend to include genes central in protein-protein interaction networks, and genes underexpressed with age in the brain may have broad phenotypic consequences.

Summary: This review focuses on the mechanisms of quorum-sensing suppression by Gram-positive microorganisms and its practical applications in food fermentation, probiotics, and biotechnology. It also discusses the possible evolutionary role of quorum-quenching mechanisms during the development of interspecies interactions of bacteria.

Summary: G(+) bacterial infections pose a significant burden and require urgent development of antimicrobial agents due to the prevalence of multidrug-resistant G(+) bacteria. Endolysins, phage-encoded enzymes, are promising alternatives for combating resistance due to their low bacterial resistance. This review classifies and summarizes the mechanisms, efficacy, and advantages of endolysins as antibacterial drug candidates targeting G(+) bacteria. Safety, challenges, and potential solutions are also addressed, with indications that endolysin-based drugs will be approved in the near future.

Summary: The study focuses on the green synthesis of copper oxide nanoparticles using vegetable peels, with an ecofriendly approach and low fabrication temperature. It also explores the antibacterial efficacy of the nanoparticles, showing a more significant biocidal effect on Gram-negative bacteria compared to Gram-positive bacteria. The research highlights the potential of utilizing biowaste for the production of useful products.

Summary: Bacterial pathogens pose a great threat to fish production, and gram-negative bacteria are major fish pathogens. This study isolated and identified major gram-negative bacteria from live and processed fish, as well as water samples. Significant differences were observed in isolates from different sample origins. Detection of fecal coliforms and Salmonella in processed fish suggests the potential danger to humans. Caution should be exercised in handling and consumption of fish harvested from the study lakes.

Summary: Inflammasomes are intracellular protein complexes important for host defense against pathogens. They detect microbial ligands and activate caspase-1 to induce inflammation and cell death. This review focuses on NLRP3, NLRP6, NLRC4, and AIM2 inflammasomes and their activation during Gram-positive bacterial infections.
