Summary: Data from a cross-sectional study at a tertiary referral center revealed that 5.9% of patients visiting the emergency department had acute severe hypertension, with 24.5% of them experiencing acute hypertension-mediated organ damage (HMOD). The mortality rates for these patients were 4.8% at 3 months, 8.8% at 1 year, and 13.9% at 3 years, with significantly higher mortality rates in patients with HMOD compared to those without. This study highlights the importance of evaluating and managing HMOD in patients with acute severe hypertension to improve outcomes and emphasizes the need for disease-specific guidelines in this area.

Summary: The study found that hospitalization rates for acute hypertension among Medicare fee-for-service beneficiaries aged 65 and older in the US have significantly increased over the past 20 years, especially among those aged 85 and older, females, Black individuals, and dual-eligible insured individuals. In 2019, Black adults had the highest hospitalization rate for acute hypertension, and there was a significant increase in the disparities in hospitalizations between Black and White individuals from 1999 to 2019.

Summary: Bangladesh has made significant progress in improving socio-economic and health indicators over the past 50 years. Mortality rates have decreased by more than half in the past 30 years. However, Bangladesh now faces the challenge of addressing both communicable and non-communicable diseases. Cost-effective, multisectoral efforts are needed to prevent and control non-communicable diseases, promote healthy lifestyles, and prevent premature mortality and disabilities.

Summary: This study aims to describe the patterns of alcohol consumption in Brazilian adults based on sociodemographic characteristics and states according to sex. The findings indicate that a significant proportion of Brazilian adults are non-drinkers, with higher alcohol consumption observed among male and white participants. Unmarried individuals are more likely to be drinkers, while those over 55 years for women and over 65 years for men are less likely to consume alcohol. Participants with higher educational attainment are more likely to be light or moderate drinkers compared to those with lower levels of education. The highest alcohol consumption is observed in Sergipe and Mato Grosso for men, and Mato Grosso do Sul and Bahia for women. These findings provide valuable information for informing alcohol consumption reduction policies in Brazil.

Summary: Testicular cancer is the most common cancer in young men of European ancestry and has been increasing in incidence, although mortality rates have been declining in high-income settings. Globally, testicular cancer is the most common cancer in men aged 15 to 44, with the highest incidence rates in Western, Northern, and Southern Europe and Oceania, and the lowest rates in Asia and Africa. Mortality rates are highest in Central and South America, and lowest in Northern Europe, Northern Africa, and Eastern Asia. There is significant variation in incidence and mortality rates among different countries.

Summary: There is limited research on the relationship between phthalate metabolites and mortality among people with hypertension. This study found that higher levels of specific phthalates are significantly associated with increased risks of all-cause, cardiovascular disease, and cancer mortality among people with hypertension.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the relationships between different dietary patterns and all-cause/CVD-specific mortality in hypertensive patients and provide dietary guidance for prognosis improvement. The study found that high adherence to AHEI-2010 and MED diets were associated with decreased risks of all-cause and CVD-specific mortality.

Summary: The study found that the blood pressure patterns in middle to old age are associated with coronary heart disease and death, with midlife hypertension being linked to increased risk of cardiovascular disease and death. Management of elderly hypertensive patients should focus not only on current blood pressure status, but also on middle-aged blood pressure status for optimal reduction of cardiovascular disease and death risk.

Summary: Systematic screening in a Brazilian population identified systemic sclerosis pulmonary hypertension (SSc-PH) patients with severe clinical and hemodynamic features. Mortality remains high in SSc-PH, more related to Bo-PAH and SSc-ILD-PH, while the prognosis of systemic sclerosis pulmonary arterial hypertension (SSc-PAH) was better.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the long-term benefits of physical activity for individuals with hypertension. The findings suggested that moderate-intensity physical activity was associated with a lower risk of cardiovascular events and all-cause mortality. However, higher intensities of physical activity did not provide additional benefits.
