Summary: The characteristics of global beta-lactamase-producing Enterobacter cloacae, including distribution of beta-lactamase, sequence types (STs), and plasmid replicons, were analyzed. Almost all E. cloacae strains carried beta-lactamase encoding genes, with bla(CMH) and bla(ACT) being the most predominant bla(AmpC) genes. Various genotypes of carbapenem-hydrolyzing beta-lactamase (CH β Ls) were identified, with bla(VIM) and bla(KPC) being the most dominant. Diverse STs and plasmid replicons were also identified.

Summary: Carbapenem-resistant Enterobacter cloacae complex (CRECC) has become a major cause of healthcare-associated infections, and colistin is a last-resort treatment option. Mobile colistin resistance (mcr)-9 gene has been identified in CRECC strains, and its co-location with bla(NDM-1) or bla(IMP-4) has been observed. These findings provide insights into the regulatory mechanisms of mcr-9 expression and emphasize the importance of monitoring the prevalence of co-existing plasmids carrying MBL and mcr-9.

Summary: Resistance to cefiderocol has emerged among carbapenemase-producing Enterobacterales, particularly in the Enterobacter cloacae complex. This resistance is mainly due to the production of VIM-1 carbapenemase and may also involve the co-production of SHV-12 and inactivation of the FcuA-like siderophore receptor.

Summary: This study describes the epidemiological and molecular characteristics of a large-scale outbreak of NDM-1-producing Enterobacter cloacae complex in Greece, which is the largest clonal outbreak of its kind in Europe. The presence of NDM-1 gene was confirmed in the isolates and it was found to be associated with other resistance genes through genetic sequencing.

Summary: Five Enterobacter cloacae isolates were exposed to cefepime, meropenem, or ceftazidime-avibactam through serial passage in broth microdilution. The study evaluated the increase in minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and resistance mechanisms in post-exposure isolates. The results showed diverse mechanisms of resistance and higher MIC values for cefepime and meropenem compared to ceftazidime-avibactam.

Summary: This study evaluated beta-lactam resistance in Enterobacter cloacae complex strains isolated from Algerian hospitals, with the majority identified as Enterobacter hormaechei species, particularly the subspecies E. hormaechei subsp. xiangfangensis. All strains exhibited resistance to multiple antibiotics and were found to produce ESBLs, primarily from the CTX-M-1 group, notably CTX-M-15. The identification and management of multidrug-resistant ECC strains, particularly those carrying CTX-M ESBLs, pose a significant public health challenge in Algeria.

Summary: This study demonstrates that tannase enzyme treatment can reduce the formation of tea cream, improve the antioxidant activity of black tea, and enhance the sensory characteristics of tea. The results suggest that the tannase produced by E. cloacae 41 could be utilized to enhance the quality of both CTC and Kangra orthodox tea samples.

Summary: This study genetically characterized VIM-producing Enterobacter cloacae complex (ECC) isolates recovered in France from 2015 to 2018. The prevalence of ECC among VIM-producing Enterobacterales increased significantly during this period. Various species and sequence types were identified among these isolates. Additionally, different integrons carrying specific bla(VIM) variants were identified.

Summary: This study found that the emergence of resistance to Cefiderocol in metallo-beta-lactamase-producing bacteria is facilitated by mutations in the CirA siderophore receptor, which are induced by the New Delhi metallo-beta-lactamase. However, inhibiting the metallo-beta-lactamase activity using dipicolinic acid can successfully prevent the development of Cefiderocol-resistant mutants. Therefore, caution should be taken when using Cefiderocol to treat infections caused by metallo-beta-lactamase-producing bacteria.

Summary: We identified two tet(X4)-positive E. cloacae isolates and found that the pTECL_2-190k-tetX4-like plasmid has been widely disseminated across various species of Enterobacteriaceae. By analyzing 85 tet(X4)-carrying plasmids, we determined that these plasmids have multiple replicon types, including IncFIA, IncHI1A, and IncHI1B.
