Summary: Studies on nutritional factors and physical activity in the development of multiple sclerosis have gained increasing interest. Mediterranean diet has shown positive effects on MS, while caution is needed due to potential side effects. Physical activity has positive effects on disease progression and patient outcomes, with combined exercises considered more effective.

Summary: Nudge policies aim to modify health-related decisions by influencing people's responses to available options. Critical appraisals show that interventions concerning changes in proximity and presentation can effectively encourage healthier diet choices, while the effectiveness of other nudging interventions remains inconclusive. Further research is needed to determine optimal strategies for nudging interventions, especially in promoting physical activity.

Summary: Migraine, a common and disabling neurological disorder, is often treated with not only medications but also lifestyle interventions. Studies on daily diaries and interventions have shown that lifestyle factors such as stress, sleep, diet, and physical activity can have varying effects on migraine attacks within individuals. Behaviour change interventions and combination approaches could be beneficial in managing these lifestyle factors. These findings provide useful guidance for incorporating lifestyle management into routine clinical care and future research.

Summary: This study aimed to estimate the proportion of cases of Crohn's disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC) that could be prevented by modifiable lifestyle factors. Using several cohorts in the US and Europe, the researchers created modifiable risk scores and healthy lifestyle scores, and found that a significant number of CD and UC cases could be prevented through lifestyle modification.

Summary: This systematic review explores the association between maternal lifestyle, diet, and physical activity during pregnancy and epigenetic changes in the offspring. The results suggest a potential link between the mother's behaviors during pregnancy and alterations in DNA methylation and microRNA in the offspring. Despite variations in study quality, the findings point to a possible impact of maternal factors on epigenetic changes in offspring.

Summary: A study of 2,539 children and adolescents aged 8-16 found that parents' diet and physical activity habits were closely associated with their offspring's lifestyles. Higher diet quality of parents was linked to greater adherence to the Mediterranean Diet in children and adolescents, as well as higher consumption of fruits, vegetables, fish, nuts, and legumes. The physical activity levels of parents were associated with lower consumption of fast foods, sweets, and candies in their children and adolescents.

Summary: The current treatment for NAFLD focuses on lifestyle intervention to achieve significant weight loss and reduce cardiovascular risk. In patients with T2D, glucose lowering agents that promote weight loss have shown a beneficial impact on NAFLD. However, it is unclear whether glucose lowering can improve NAFLD in T2D patients independent of weight loss.

Summary: A study compared a web-based intervention (WBI) with a standard group-based intervention (GBI) for the prevention and treatment of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), and found that both interventions had similar effects on weight loss and the risk of developing diabetes in NAFLD patients. The study followed 546 NAFLD individuals for 60 months and observed similar changes in weight and incidence of diabetes between the two intervention groups.

Summary: This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of supplementing a mixture of essential amino acids (EAA) and tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle intermediates in increasing lean body mass (LBM) and improving physical and psychological outcomes in patients with anorexia nervosa (AN) who undergo specialized intensive treatment for eating disorders. The results of this study will provide insights on the effectiveness of supplementation with EAA and TCA intermediates in improving LBM and other important physical and psychological outcomes in AN patients who regain weight with specialized intensive treatment.

Summary: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a common cause of liver disease worldwide, with potential progression to hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The prevalence of NAFLD and consequently HCC is expected to increase in the coming years, posing a significant public health problem. Monitoring HCC in NAFLD patients has limitations, and new biomarkers and scores have been proposed for early diagnosis. This review explores the differences in HCC features between NAFLD and non-NAFLD patients, as well as the limitations of tumor surveillance in NAFLD patients and new biomarkers for early diagnosis.

Summary: This review investigates the mechanisms through which metabolic flexibility and insulin resistance contribute to the progression of NAFLD and heart disease. Both play a critical role in glucose and lipid metabolism, and disruption of metabolic flexibility leads to abnormal lipid metabolism and fat accumulation in the liver, while insulin resistance affects cardiac glucose metabolism and lipid metabolism, leading to impaired cardiac function. Regular physical activity promotes metabolic flexibility, while weight loss achieved through calorie restriction improves insulin sensitivity.

Summary: McArdle disease and anorexia nervosa have a detrimental bidirectional interaction. Furthermore, laboratory parameter alterations commonly attributed to eating disorders may delay the diagnosis of metabolic muscle diseases. On the other hand, the coexistence of a chronic disease like McArdle disease can help engage patients in actively addressing their eating disorder by adopting a healthy lifestyle.
