Summary: The nadir CA-125 level in patients with epithelial ovarian cancer is associated with progression-free survival but not overall survival. Patients with nadir CA-125 levels between 11-35 U/ml after first-line treatment have a higher risk of recurrence compared to patients with levels <= 10 U/ml.

Summary: This study analyzed the relationship between serum CA-125 levels after chemotherapy and clinical outcomes in Korean women with epithelial ovarian cancer. The results showed that serum CA-125 is correlated with clinical outcomes and can be used to predict platinum resistance in ovarian cancer treatment.

Summary: Borderline ovarian tumors (BOTs) have a favorable prognosis and fertility preserving approaches are necessary for young patients. This retrospective chart review suggests that regular ultrasound follow-up is effective for recurrence monitoring in those with BOTs, as ultrasound identified recurrence in majority of cases before symptoms or physical exam findings.

Summary: This study aims to investigate the clinical and prognostic significance of CA-125 trends during chemotherapy in high-risk early-stage epithelial ovarian cancer patients. The results showed that normalization of CA-125 after the first cycle of chemotherapy was associated with better survival.

Summary: Ovarian cancer is a deadly disease with urgent need for new treatments. The development of a conditionally replicative oncolytic adenovirus (CRAd) that targets MUC16/CA-125 in cancer cells shows promising anti-cancer effects. This approach represents a unique and practical direction for further investigation in ovarian cancer treatment.

Summary: An observational study was conducted to investigate the relationship between the cut-off level of cancer antigen 125 (CA 125) and long-term prognosis in high-grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSCs). The results showed that initial CA 125 levels could predict disease-free and overall survival rates, with significant differences observed especially in stage III disease. This suggests that CA 125 level may have beneficial clinical predictive value for HGSC.

Summary: Ibrutinib, a small-molecule inhibitor of Bruton's tyrosine kinase, is used to treat hematological diseases like chronic lymphocytic leukemia. The hypothesis that it may suppress the tumor marker CA-125 in ovarian cancer is based on an observation in a patient with low-grade serous ovarian cancer who received ibrutinib for CLL. A mechanistic model explaining this potential drug effect is proposed for further research.

Summary: The development of patient-derived tumor organoids from epithelial ovarian cancer has the potential to contribute significantly to precision medicine by testing chemotherapy sensitivity and investigating genetic drivers of drug resistance. This study identified one organoid line resistant to carboplatin, leading to a shorter progression-free survival and platinum-resistant recurrence. Gene expression analysis revealed interconnected pathways related to NF-kB, cellular differentiation, and B-cell receptor signaling in the context of carboplatin resistance.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate differences in microRNA expression according to clinicopathological characteristics and predict cytoreductive outcome in ovarian cancer patients. One microRNA, miR-130a, was associated with serous histology and advanced FIGO stage, while seven other microRNAs were found to be significantly associated with clinicopathological characteristics but need further validation.

Summary: Ovarian cancer is a common and deadly cancer in women. This study analyzed the experience of a comprehensive cancer center with preoperative CA-125 levels in ovarian cancer patients. Results showed that a preoperative CA-125 cutoff value of 500 IU/ml is promising to predict successful primary debulking surgery.

Summary: This study found that CA-125 and TPA showed promising results as screening tools for ovarian or uterine cancer. Both biomarkers were able to discriminate between malignant and non-malignant cases in the overall sample. However, TPA was the best diagnostic marker for uterine cancer, while CA-125 was the best for ovarian cancer.

Summary: Peritonitis associated with Curvularia lunata is rare, with only five cases reported in the literature, all in middle-aged patients with comorbidities undergoing dialysis. This case report presents a 21-year-old female patient who was diagnosed with ovarian malignancy based on raised CA 125 and suspected tubo-ovarian mass on MRI, but was later found to have a pelvic collection with Curvularia lunata infection.

Summary: EOC patients have low response rates to immunotherapies, but evidence suggests ovarian tumors are immunogenic and immune-related genomic profiles can serve as prognostic markers. Specific research areas that need to be addressed include developing immune-based prognostic signatures and driving advancements in this field.

Summary: This study showed that adequate lymph node dissection and adjuvant therapy were associated with improved outcomes in patients with FIGO stage II endometrioid endometrial cancer (EEC), while lymphovascular space invasion (LVSI), age >= 60, and absence of adjuvant therapy were identified as independent risk factors for decreased 5-year disease-free survival. Inadequate lymph node dissection, age >= 60, and absence of adjuvant therapy were independent prognostic factors for decreased 5-year overall survival.

Summary: The study analyzed factors affecting recurrence-free and overall survival rates in women with low-grade serous ovarian cancer. Complete cytoreduction and absence of residual disease were found to be the most important variables influencing survival. Endometriosis and lymphovascular space invasion were also significant factors affecting recurrence rates.

Summary: This study revealed that serum catestatin levels are significantly elevated in preeclamptic pregnancies, with positive correlations with clinical and laboratory data of preeclampsia. This highlights the importance of chromaffin cell secretions in the adrenal medulla in the pathophysiology of preeclampsia. Control of serum catestatin levels may support the treatment of hypertension in preeclampsia.

Summary: This research aimed to determine the incidence of venous thromboembolism (VTE) in patients undergoing surgery for gynecological malignancy and identify the risk factors associated with it. The study found that BMI >30, operation duration >180 min, paraaortic and/or pelvic lymphadenectomy, neoadjuvant chemotherapy, smoking, and chronic renal failure were significant variables for VTE. The findings suggest the importance of preoperative pharmacological and postoperative extended dual prophylaxis in reducing the incidence of VTE in this patient group.
