Summary: This paper presents a novel method for functional liver segmentation which uses differential geometry analysis on liver surface and interior venous system. The method automatically identifies anatomical references needed for defining all separating surfaces, demonstrating accurate labeling of Couinaud's segments, especially the caudate, with less user interaction. Preliminary findings suggest its integration into augmented surgical planning and intervention.

Summary: Regenerative liver surgery aims to increase future liver remnant volume to expand the limits of technical resectability. PVE/HVE is a novel minimal invasive method that induces rapid liver growth, potentially improving liver regeneration and surgical feasibility. Randomized trials are needed to compare PVE/HVE with PVE for superiority.

Summary: This study demonstrates that the time interval between hepatic resection (HR) and secondary liver transplantation (SLT) is a key factor in predicting complications after liver transplantation (LT), without affecting hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC)-related death.

Summary: The study examined the standardized laparoscopic approach for extrahepatic control of the common trunk of middle and left hepatic veins during liver resection, and found it to be feasible with low complication rates in 25 patients.

Summary: Hepatic vascular injury (HVI) in liver trauma is common and predictive of patient outcome and management. Patients with HVI have a longer hospital stay and increased likelihood of angioembolization, especially those with high-grade liver injury.

Summary: The use of pedicle clamping during liver resection for colorectal cancer liver metastases showed favorable long-term outcomes and lower rates of increased transfusion demand without increasing postoperative morbidity. Further prospective evaluation is needed to fully understand the potential oncologic benefits of this technique for patients undergoing curative resection.

Summary: PSVD is a newly named condition that represents non-cirrhotic portal hypertension with characteristic histology and the absence of portal vein thrombosis. It is a more inclusive definition than previously recognized idiopathic non-cirrhotic portal hypertension. However, there is limited data available on PSVD patients.

Summary: This retrospective study evaluated the effects of liver surgery and thermal hepatic ablation (THA) on pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (Pan-NETs) with liver metastases, showing that patients treated with these interventions had significantly higher five-year survival rates and longer median survival times compared to the control group. Surgery or THA was associated with a significant decrease in death rate.

Summary: This retrospective multicenter study evaluated the accuracy of transient elastography (TE-LSM) in discriminating between Porto-sinusoidal vascular liver disease (PSVD) and cirrhosis in patients with signs of portal hypertension. The study found that TE-LSM < 10 kPa strongly suggests PSVD, while PSVD is highly unlikely when TE-LSM is >20 kPa in patients with signs of portal hypertension.

Summary: This study developed an on-chip PVmT model for colorectal cancer, which helps understand the progression of PVTT and its effects on hepatic cell metabolites and structures. Additionally, it demonstrated the preliminary efficacy of combined thermo-ablation and chemo-drug therapy for PVmT.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of hepatectomy on chemokines, liver regeneration, and myeloid cell levels. The results showed an increase in pro-tumorigenic chemokines after hepatectomy, as well as significant differences in liver regeneration and myeloid cell infiltration in the short and long term.

Summary: Portal vein embolization (PVE) is a safe and effective procedure for inducing liver volume remnant increase in liver tumor patients, which can elevate the resection rate. Careful patient cohort selection is crucial to avoid overuse of PVE. Further central clinical trials are needed to provide guidelines for surgeons.

Summary: This article analyzed the effect of portal vein resection (PVR) and hepatic artery resection (HAR) on the long-term survival after surgery for Klatskin tumor. The results showed that both vascular resection types were poor prognostic factors, but recent research indicated that PVR did not lead to a poor prognosis. Therefore, PVR should be used when necessary to improve the long-term survival of patients, and whether HAR should be performed or not needs further evaluation.
