Summary: This study revealed that rebamipide exerts a protective effect against NSAID-induced small intestinal damage by modulating the small intestinal microbiota, and it also ameliorates the exacerbation of the damage by proton pump inhibitors.

Summary: Image-enhanced endoscopy is a breakthrough technology that has attracted significant attention for diagnosing and identifying lesions in the gastrointestinal tract, particularly for improving the visibility and detection of small intestinal lesions. Researchers in this field aim to evaluate the efficacy of this technology by focusing on image-enhanced capsule endoscopy studies.

Summary: The study investigated the effects of Weikang Capsule (WKC) on aspirin-related gastric and small intestinal mucosal injury by magnetically controlled capsule endoscopy (MCCE). The results showed that WKC can alleviate gastrointestinal symptoms, as well as gastric and duodenal mucosal injuries, in patients taking enteric-coated aspirin without aggravating jejunal or ileal mucosal injury, suggesting it may be an effective alternative treatment for these patients.

Summary: This study evaluated the VCE characteristics of small intestinal mucosal abnormalities in patients with intestinal lymphangiectasia (IL) and investigated the relationship between clinical and VCE characteristics. The study identified specific VCE abnormalities in IL patients, in addition to classical endoscopic findings.

Summary: A battery-free smart capsule has been designed to target sample inflammatory biomarkers in the small intestine, providing a non-invasive method to differentiate types of inflammatory bowel disease. This innovative technology offers a promising solution for improving IBD diagnosis and treatment strategies by assessing inflammation biomarkers throughout the digestive tract.

Summary: Small bowel capsule endoscopy (SBCE) has revolutionized the diagnosis of small bowel pathology by offering a non-invasive and well-tolerated procedure. However, there are still uncertainties in technical aspects, such as incomplete examinations, poor imaging quality, and the risk of capsule retention, which hinders its clinical utility.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the diagnostic value of magnetically controlled robotic capsule endoscopy (MCRCE) in patients with suspected small intestinal diseases. Results showed a high positive detection rate of small intestinal diseases using MCRCE, with common conditions including non-specific enteritis and small intestinal ulcers. Furthermore, the running time of the capsules was relatively long but no complications were observed.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate whether NSAIDs can cause damage to the small bowel mucosa. Among the 273 subjects, 125 (45.8%) had small bowel erosions or ulcers, with NSAIDs identified as an independent risk factor for these injuries. Antithrombotic agents were not found to cause or exacerbate damage to the small bowel in this study.

Summary: The aim of this study was to find predictive markers for clinically significant small bowel Crohn's disease without the need for small bowel capsule endoscopy. The results indicated that fecal calprotectin, serum albumin, and erythrocyte sedimentation rate were significantly different between patients diagnosed with Crohn's disease and those without. A CECDAI score of 3 could serve as a reasonable cutoff value for small bowel Crohn's disease. Follow-up with fecal calprotectin before small bowel capsule endoscopy may be appropriate for patients without endoscopic ileitis, negative imaging results, and fecal calprotectin levels below 50 ug/g.

Summary: The management of pediatric Peutz-Jeghers Syndrome (PJS) focuses on preventing intussusception complicating small intestinal polyposis. This study analyzed VCE studies in pediatric PJS patients and found that the polyp burden mainly favored the proximal third of the small intestine, with relatively small numbers and sizes amenable to resection through enteroscopy. Male gender and older age were associated with an increased polyp burden.

Summary: This paper provides a comprehensive review of the anatomy and physiology of the small intestine and discusses the application of capsule endoscopy in examining the surface lining of the small intestine. The paper also summarizes theoretical and practical studies on intestinal motor activities and discusses mathematical modeling and experimental research on capsule endoscopy in the small intestine. Finally, the paper identifies the requirements for improving current work and provides expectations for future research in this field.
