Summary: The expression of plant resistance traits often comes with costs, but plants might possess the capability to allocate resources to both resistance and growth. This study investigates how annual variations in herbivore abundance and damage levels affect plant performance. The results show that plants with higher resistance had higher seed production, but only in the year with increased herbivore abundance and damage. Moreover, there was no trade-off between resistance, growth, and fitness, as plants allocated all available resources to both resistance and growth in the year with stronger herbivore pressure.

Summary: Adverse weather conditions can affect mortality in new-born lambs. The Elsenburg Merino flock showed divergent responses in reproduction and lamb survival due to genetic selection based on number of lambs weaned. The positively selected H-Line lambs exhibited higher neonatal rectal temperature and lower mortality rates in response to cold stress compared to the negatively selected L-Line.

Summary: In this article, two adaptive channel assignment (CA) schemes are proposed for maneuvering target tracking (MTT) in multistatic passive radar. The first scheme selects Q channels to achieve the highest MTT accuracy, and the second scheme minimizes the number of channels while guaranteeing a required MTT performance. These algorithms offer considerable reductions in computational complexity compared with the branch-and-bound method and may achieve near-optimal performance.

Summary: Nowadays, the rapid development of IoT has a great potential for various applications. LoRa technology, with its chirp spread spectrum modulation and high receiver sensitivity, can achieve long-range transmission with low power consumption. However, the scalability of LoRa is limited due to ALOHA-based random channel access. ADR is a key mechanism for LoRa networks to control the allocation of network resources, but existing algorithms are not effective for mobile devices or gateways. This study proposes a blind ADR implementation method, which shows promising results in terms of packet reliability and fairness in different environments.

Summary: Operating room planning and scheduling play a crucial role in hospitals, and integrating intensive care units and downstream wards into the planning process can reduce the likelihood of cancellations. This study proposes a mixed integer linear programming model for integrated planning and a two-stage hybrid algorithm to solve it. Experimental results show that the proposed method can provide near-optimal solutions in a shorter amount of time and outperform other algorithms in terms of solution quality.

Summary: The prediction of genetic gain from artificial selection is important in plant and animal breeding. The classical breeder's equation is widely used, but high throughput sequencing techniques now allow for more accurate prediction of genetic gains at the individual gene level. This study evaluates the prediction of genetic gains at multiple levels of population structure and discusses factors that affect prediction accuracy. It also extends the classical breeder's equation to molecular breeding methods and explores the genetic gains from selection using multi-omics traits.

Summary: In this article, several distributed inertial algorithms are investigated for solving resource allocation problems with convex or strongly convex objective functions in continuous and discrete time. By introducing an auxiliary variable, the original problem is equivalently transformed into a distributed unconstrained optimization problem. Various continuous and discrete time algorithms are proposed and their convergence rates are determined.
