Summary: This study examined the characteristics of referral to health psychology in the context of integrative oncology. Female, black, younger, and obese patients were more likely to be referred to health psychology. Referred patients reported worse fatigue, sleep, depression, and anxiety. The most common reasons for referral were diet/nutrition, overall health, and stress/anxiety.

Summary: The genetic and cellular heterogeneity of glioblastoma poses challenges for effective uniform treatment, especially at recurrence. To address this, personalized strategies and stratification of potential targeted therapies within a clinically relevant timeframe are necessary. Functional profiling of drug candidates against patient-derived glioblastoma organoids (PD-GBO) holds promise in preclinically discovering effective personalized treatments. A PD-GBO-based profiling platform was established and successfully identified potential treatment options for three out of four patients in a turnaround time of 13-15 days. This approach proves to be a complement and potentially an alternative to current molecular profiling efforts, providing a clinically relevant time period for personalized treatment discovery. The use of PD-GBO platforms is also warranted for preclinical identification of new drugs against morphological glioblastoma features.

Summary: Personalized Medicine (PM) is rapidly advancing in everyday medical practice, particularly in the treatment of critically ill patients. The integration of basic research and complex mathematical models allows for the processing of biodata and the extraction of specific information for individualized treatment. However, there are challenges associated with PM in intensive care, such as economic, approval, and ethical issues.

Summary: This research established an effective three-dimensional culture system for generating kidney cancer organoids and successfully generated 33 organoid lines from different subtypes of kidney cancer. These organoids preserved the histological architecture, mutational landscape, and transcriptional profile of the parental tumor tissues, and revealed inter- and intra-tumoral heterogeneity. Additionally, the organoids can be used for drug screening and evaluating the efficacy of immunotherapy.

Summary: The presence or absence of estrogen and progesterone receptors is an important biomarker for therapy selection in breast cancer patients. Conventional immunohistochemistry measurement has errors, and there have been attempts to increase precision by incorporating gene expression information. Dempster-Shafer decision theory (DST) is a suitable approach for dealing with contradicting evidence obtained through different techniques. This study compares DST with classical statistics in the context of breast cancer patient data, aiming to demonstrate the potential applications of DST in medicine.

Summary: Breast cancer, as the most common malignancy in women, requires personalized treatment approaches in radiation oncology. While systemic therapies based on molecular subtypes are personalized, personalized radiation therapy is still in development to better tailor treatment and improve outcomes. Efforts are being made to identify prognostic factors and biomarkers for personalized radiation therapy selection.

Summary: The study investigated long-term changes in health-related choices, individual tendencies, and risk attitudes among Italian GT users. Results showed that participants who intended to modify their behavior after learning their GT results did so over time, with a healthier diet being the most common long-term behavioral change observed. Psychological variables like risk-taking attitude and risk tolerance did not seem to affect the decision to change lifestyle. Overall, there was a reduction in anxiety and worry over health, but also a decrease in motivation for health promotion and prevention, health esteem, and positive expectations for future health.

Summary: This study explored risk estimations related to COVID-19 perception and distress in oncologic outpatients undergoing active hospital treatments compared to the general population. The results showed that cancer patients have a lower risk perception and a more positive illness representation related to COVID-19 compared to control subjects. The level of distress is not associated with the clinical status, but it is moderated by illness perception.

Summary: Previous research suggests that focusing on self-representations enhances the ability to evaluate internal sensations. This study analyzed the decision-making process under various conditions of stimulated self-representations and found that participants tended to choose losses more frequently when primed with bodily self-representations. This could be due to the distractive nature of bodily self-focus, diminishing participants' long-term outcome commitment, or the enhanced interoception leading to aversion to losses.

Additionally, non-participation/dropout is often associated with factors related to intervention commitment and its interference with daily life. On the other hand, patients' reasons for participation are often linked to the value they find in the intervention according to their personal needs and experience of illness.
