Summary: The combination of anticancer drugs and chemosensitizing agents has potential in potentiate chemotherapy and reduce toxicity in aggressive and chemoresistant cancers. This study found that caryophyllane sesquiterpenes can enhance the efficacy of sorafenib in HCC, CCA, and PDAC cell models. The synergistic effects were associated with the modulation of STAT3 signaling and ABC transporters.

Summary: The present study evaluated the effects of beta-Caryophyllene (BCP) on Cd-induced neurotoxicity. The results showed that BCP treatment reduced ROS production, increased Nrf2 expression, and protected cells from death. BCP also regulated the apoptosis pathway and reduced the increase of pro-inflammatory cytokines.

Summary: The study showed that distillation can improve the compositional profile of cannabinoids in hemp biomass, converting cannabinoid acids into cannabinoids like CBD and CBC. Distilled hemp biomass had higher cannabinoid content compared to non-distilled, with the addition of CBN in the distilled biomass.

Summary: This study investigated the correlation between the skin permeation and in vivo antiedematogenic activity of beta-caryophyllene and caryophyllene oxide from Copaifera multijuga oleoresin in topical nanoemulgels. The results indicate that the presence of similar compounds affects the permeation profile, and beta-caryophyllene is an essential compound for the pharmacological activity of the oleoresin.

Summary: This study assessed the biomass productivity, chemical composition of essential oil, and polyphenol accumulation of two new catnip cultivars (CR3 and CR9) and their hybrid (CR9xCR3) across four successive harvests. The results showed that the aromatic profile and polyphenol accumulation had a genotype-dependent response to successive harvests. This study highlights the potential of these catnip genotypes for the supply of natural products for pest control and other industries.

Summary: The aim of this study was to evaluate the antinociceptive and anti-inflammatory potential of Psidium cattleyanum leaves essential oil. Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC/MS) was used to analyze the oil. The results showed that the essential oil has significant antinociceptive and anti-inflammatory effects, and has potential for application in the pharmaceutical and food industry.

Summary: Recent research indicates that BCP, through its action on CB2 receptors and other mechanisms, can effectively reduce METH reward and intake, as well as motivation to seek and take METH. Additionally, BCP also inhibits METH-enhanced electrical BSR, and blocks METH-primed and cue-induced reinstatement of drug-seeking behavior.

Summary: This study identified candidate genes regulating the production of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in red bayberry through transcriptome analysis. The gene MrTPS3 was found to regulate the synthesis of β-caryophyllene, while MrTPS20 was found to regulate the synthesis of α-pinene. A single amino acid substitution between different cultivars resulted in the loss of function of MrTPS3 and led to differences in β-caryophyllene production.

Summary: The study demonstrated that BCP exhibited strong anti-angiogenic activity by blocking the migration of endothelial cells, tube-like network formation, suppression of VEGF secretion, and sprouting of microvessels. BCP also deformed the vascularization architecture in a chick embryo chorioallantoic membrane assay and showed a significant reduction in tumor growth in xenograft models by inducing apoptosis and modulating gene expressions related to cell survival and proliferation.
