Background There is evidence of parental risk factors for suicidal behaviour in offspring, but research on variations in their effects with offspring's age at first exposure is sparse. Aims To explore the effects of age at exposure to parental mortality and markers of morbidity on the risks of suicide and attempted suicide in offspring. Methods This was a case-control study effected through record linkage between Swedish registers. Individuals born 1973-83 who committed suicide (n=1407) or were hospitalised due to an attempted suicide (n=17 159) were matched to <= 10 controls by sex, month and county of birth. ORs were measured in time windows representing age at first exposure. Results A general pattern of increasing risks of suicide and attempted suicide in offspring with decreasing age at exposure to parental risk factors emerged. Adjusted suicide risk (OR (95% CI)) was most pronounced in the youngest exposure window for parental psychiatric disability pension (3.1 (1.6 to 5.8)), somatic disability pension (1.9 (1.0 to 3.4)), psychiatric inpatient care (2.5 (2.0 to 3.1)), parental attempted suicide (2.9 (2.0 to 4.1)) and suicide (2.9 (1.7 to 5.2)). For parental non-suicidal deaths, the general pattern was the opposite. Patterns in offspring attempted suicide were similar to completed suicide for parental disability pension, psychiatric inpatient care and non-suicidal death. Attempted suicide risk after parental suicide showed an increasing trend with increasing age at exposure. Conclusion Parental morbidity and parental suicidal behaviour show the most detrimental effects on completed suicide among offspring when they appear early in life. Early interventions in families at risk are necessary to prevent suicide in offspring.

Summary: This study aims to explore early obesity prevention interventions by analyzing their behavior change strategies and components. Through comprehensive systematic searches and coding, the researchers will summarize the characteristics of the interventions and compare the applied behavior change techniques for different target behaviors. The findings of this study could provide effective intervention components for the prevention of childhood obesity.

Summary: Behavioural interventions in early life show some effect in reducing childhood overweight and obesity, but their overall effectiveness and differential effects among subgroups remain uncertain. This article presents a protocol for a systematic review with individual participant data (IPD) meta-analysis to evaluate the effectiveness of obesity prevention interventions starting antenatally or in the first year after birth, and to explore differential effects among key subgroups.

Summary: This study examined suicide-related tweets on Twitter based on user influence levels and found that high-influence users tended to post more problematic content related to suicide, while all users generally lacked protective content. These results emphasize the need for further research and potential intervention.

Collective Emotions During the COVID-19 Outbreak

Summary: The COVID-19 pandemic has led to unprecedented health threats and changes in social life. An analysis of tweets from 18 countries and six different languages showed a rapid increase in anxiety-related expressions after the start of outbreaks, which gradually relaxed once stringent measures were in place. Sadness terms increased and anger terms decreased with the stringency of measures, while positive emotion words only slightly decreased in a few countries.

Summary: This study is the first large-scale exploration of the association between the quantity of suicide prevention-related content on Twitter and help-seeking behavior and suicide cases. The results showed that tweets about prevention were positively associated with calls for help and negatively associated with suicides. In addition, the total number of tweets was negatively associated with calls for help and positively associated with suicide cases.

Lance L. Hawley, Thomas Niederkrotenthaler, Rabia Zaheer, Ayal Schaffer, Donald A. Redelmeier, Anthony J. Levitt, Jitender Sareen, Jane Pirkis, Mark Sinyor

Summary: This study investigated the impact of different narrative constructs on subsequent suicides by examining the change in suicide counts over time in Toronto, Canada. The results showed that harmful narratives about suicides in celebrities and non-celebrities with described methods were associated with more subsequent suicides, while protective narratives about survival and crisis mastery without depictions of suicidal behaviors were associated with fewer subsequent suicides.

The role of monocausal versus multicausal explanations of suicide in suicide reporting: A randomized controlled trial

Summary: This study conducted a web-based randomized controlled trial to examine the effects of different portrayals of suicide in news articles on public perceptions. The findings suggest that articles that attribute suicide to a single cause or exclusively to social factors tend to lead to the acceptance of these misconceptions. Therefore, highlighting the multifactorial etiology of suicide in news articles may help to prevent public misconceptions about the causes of suicide.

Experiences of nurses and coordinators in a childhood obesity prevention trial based on motivational interviewing within Swedish child health services

Johanna Eno Persson, Christine Leo Swenne, Louise von Essen, Benjamin Bohman, Finn Rasmussen, Ata Ghaderi

Summary: Through interviews with participants in the PRIMROSE childhood obesity prevention trial, it was found that nurses found the trial rewarding but challenging to combine the intervention with regular work. Study coordinators also faced difficulties in handling the conflicting needs of the research group and the nurses' commitment to usual child health care services. The importance of support, encouragement, simplified intervention, and adaptation of training in motivational interviewing to the setting was emphasized to improve the outcome of future primary prevention of obesity. Stress and lack of time were identified as major barriers to delivering the intervention as intended.
