Summary: The addition of midazolam to the dual prophylaxis of ondansetron and dexamethasone did not have an additive preventive effect on PONV after gynecologic laparoscopy, as the complete response rate and incidence of PONV were similar between the control group and midazolam group.

Summary: This study suggests that a combination of three antiemetics is more effective in controlling delayed nausea and vomiting in CRC patients treated with L-OHP-based chemotherapy, especially for female patients. Identifying individual risk factors can help personalize treatments for delayed CINV.

Summary: This study compared the efficacy of the granisetron transdermal system (GTS) with ondansetron for controlling chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting. The results showed that GTS was not inferior to ondansetron in controlling CINV, and it also improved the quality of life in patients.

Summary: This article reviews the impact of recent updated antiemetic guidelines from national cancer organizations on chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV), emphasizing the importance of patient assessment and adherence to national guidelines in CINV management. Ongoing assessment and follow-up are critical for early intervention and optimized management of side effects, improving patients' quality of life.

Summary: This study rigorously reviewed the efficacy and safety of olanzapine in defined hematology oncology settings, finding that olanzapine-containing regimens were superior in prophylactic setting for HEC patients. Administration of olanzapine at a 10-mg dose showed superiority in multiple efficacy endpoints among adults, while further research is needed for MEC patients and lower 5-mg doses of olanzapine.

Summary: This study aimed to test the feasibility of using capsaicin for the treatment of nausea and vomiting in pregnancy. A randomized controlled trial was conducted on pregnant individuals in their first trimester. The results showed a trend towards decreased treatment time with capsaicin compared to placebo, but no significant difference in symptom severity. This study suggests that capsaicin is an acceptable treatment for nausea and vomiting in pregnancy, but further research is needed to determine its efficacy.

Summary: This study aimed to describe the prevalence and treatments of first-trimester nausea and vomiting of pregnancy (NVP) among mothers of non-malformed control infants in the National Birth Defects Prevention Study. Among 10,540 controls, 70.1% reported experiencing NVP, with 12.2% using common treatments. Women with higher education reported more NVP and treatment use, while variations were observed in NVP and treatments among different races and age groups.

Summary: This study assessed the occurrence of chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV) and the effectiveness of antiemetic treatment. The results showed a relatively high incidence of CINV, and some patients continued to experience nausea and vomiting despite receiving antiemetics, indicating that the current antiemetic regimens are not effective.

Summary: Patients with lung cancer undergoing carboplatin plus pemetrexed (CBDCA+PEM) chemotherapy have a higher risk of delayed nausea compared to those undergoing carboplatin plus paclitaxel (CBDCA+PTX) chemotherapy, while the incidence of vomiting does not significantly differ between the two groups. Female sex, younger age, and CBDCA+PEM regimen are independent risk factors for delayed nausea, while female sex is an independent risk factor for delayed vomiting.

Summary: The risk for postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) is similar between gravid and non-gravid women, although anesthesiologists administer fewer prophylactic antiemetics to gravid women during non-obstetric surgery. Gravid women have longer hospital lengths of stay despite shorter surgical duration.

Summary: Nausea and vomiting are common symptoms in advanced cancer patients, and drug management is crucial. This study synthesized evidence from multiple sources to establish guidelines for the pharmacologic management of these symptoms, recommending metoclopramide and haloperidol as first-line medications, and methotrimeprazine and olanzapine as second-line options.

Summary: The study analysed the evolution of endpoint assessments in clinical trials for CINV and PONV therapeutics, finding that primary endpoints have become more refined and there is still a need for further research on the heterogeneity of tools used for nausea assessment. Furthermore, there is a lack of safe and efficacious antiemetic treatments for pediatric patients.
