The electrochemical oxidation oft-dopa (LD) and paracetamol (PAR) has been investigated by application of nickel hydroxide nanoparticles/multi-walled carbon nanotubes composite electrode (MWCNTs-NHNPs/GCE) using cyclic voltammetry (CV), differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) and chronoamperometry (CA) methods. The modified electrode showed electrochemical responses with high sensitivity for LD and PAR determination, which makes it a suitable sensor for simultaneous sub-mu mol L-1 detection of LD and PAR in aqueous solutions. Under the optimum conditions the electrode provides a linear response versus LD and PAR concentrations in the range of 0.1-100 mu M and 0.06-26 mu M, respectively using the DPV method. Linear responses versus LD and PAR concentrations in the range of 1-672 mu M and 1-960 mu M, respectively, were obtained using the CA method. The modified electrode was used for determination of LD and PAR in human urine with satisfactory results. (C) 2013 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Synthesis of a magnetic SBA-15-NH2@Dual-Template Imprinted Polymer for solid phase extraction and determination of Pb and Cd in vegetables; Box Behnken design

Alireza Taheri, Mohammad Alikarami, Zahra Sadat Hashami

Summary: In this study, a simple one-step method was used to extract and determine lead and cadmium. The important variables in extraction and pre-concentration were identified through analysis of variance and their behavior was modeled. The synthesized dual-template imprinted polymer demonstrated effective adsorption and determination of lead and cadmium.

Preconcentration and separation of Hg(II) by modified cloud point extraction in gallstone patients

Shokoufeh Mahmoud-Nezhad, Alireza Taheri

Summary: In this study, a new ultrasonically modified cloud point extraction method (um-CPE) was developed using CoFe2O4 nanoparticles for pre-concentration and measurement of mercury. Diphenylthiocarbazon (DTC) was used as the ligand for mercury complexation. The optimal extraction conditions were determined using response surface methodology and Box-Behnken design. The proposed method showed promising results for solid-phase extraction and pre-concentration of mercury in serum and gallstones.

New hybrid approach for desulfurization of diesel fuel using an efficient heterogeneous polyoxometalate nanocatalyst

Omid Azadi, Alireza Taheri, Ali Babaei

Summary: In this study, a catalytic oxidative desulfurization (CODS) process using an organic-inorganic hybrid nanocatalyst was proposed to remove thiophene (T) and benzothiophene (BT) from diesel fuel. The nanocatalyst, synthesized using CuO nanoparticles as a support and a mono copper-substituted polyoxotungstate ([PW11CuO39]) as an active component, showed high desulfurization efficiency. The experimental conditions for the CODS process were optimized using response surface methodology, and a removal efficiency of 98% for thiophene and 99% for benzothiophene was achieved. The synthesized heterogeneous nanocatalyst could be separated and recycled successfully, making it a promising strategy for the preparation of clean gasoline fuel.

Extraction and determination of mercury from spring water, beverage and rice samples using combined microwave-assisted cloud point and dispersive-solid phase extraction in micellar media

Parastoo Seyedmohammadi, Alireza Taheri, Zeinab Rezayatizad

Summary: The determination of inorganic mercury species in water, beverages and foods using a combination of microwave-assisted cloud point extraction and dispersive-solid phase extraction (MA-CP-dSPE) is presented. The method is based on the dispersion of nanoparticles in micellar media with a novel ligand and allows mercury determination from 0.020 to 350 mg/L. The accuracy of the procedure was confirmed using certified reference material, and the method successfully analyzed copper in spring water, beverage and rice samples.
