Summary: This study presents a bio-inspired, environmentally friendly technique for metallization of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) using polydopamine (PDA) as an adhesion promoter and electroless plating with nickel. The results showed that prior oxidation of SWCNTs significantly improved the distribution of PDA and nickel. The PDA layer acted as a p-dopant, increasing the Seebeck coefficient of SWCNTs. However, the subsequent metallization decreased the Seebeck coefficient, indicating a need for further optimization.

Summary: The adsorptive removal of ibuprofen and paracetamol from aqueous solutions on carbon nanotubes (CNT), as well as functionalized CNT with hydroxyl (CNT-OH) and carboxyl (CNT-COOH) groups, was investigated. The effects of solution pH and ionic strength were studied, and adsorption kinetics and equilibrium study were also conducted. The adsorption of both drugs on all three adsorbents was strongly pH-dependent, while ionic strength did not affect the adsorption efficiency. The Langmuir isotherm provided the best correlation for the adsorption of drugs, and the adsorption capacity followed the order: CNT-COOH > CNT > CNT-OH.

Summary: The Ni-CNT nanocomposites showed improvement in microhardness and mechanical performance, with Ni-1CNT-DM composites exhibiting an excellent combination of tensile yield strength and elongation. The uniform dispersion of reinforcement, refined grain size, and strong nickel-CNT interfacial bonding were found to be the key factors contributing to the enhancement of mechanical properties in Ni-CNT nanocomposites.

Summary: The study found that post-fire curing with water or in a moist environment can partially restore the strength and stiffness of concrete elements. Nanofillers, such as carbon-black nanoparticles or multi-walled carbon nanotubes, were found to enhance the strength recovery of composites exposed to temperatures up to 400 degrees C by improving rehydration reactions. Composites containing 0.4% MWCNT and 3% CBN showed the best strength and stiffness recovery.

Summary: The study presented a sensitive detection method for nitroaromatic explosives using a GC/MWCNTs/PEI electrode coated with gold nanoparticles. The method successfully detected TNT, DNT, 2,4-DNP, PA, and tetryl in a linear range, with detection limits ranging from 15 μg L-1 to 135 μg L-1. This method was also validated against the reference LC-MS method for analyzing explosives in soil samples.

Summary: In this study, a new ultrasonically modified cloud point extraction method (um-CPE) was developed using CoFe2O4 nanoparticles for pre-concentration and measurement of mercury. Diphenylthiocarbazon (DTC) was used as the ligand for mercury complexation. The optimal extraction conditions were determined using response surface methodology and Box-Behnken design. The proposed method showed promising results for solid-phase extraction and pre-concentration of mercury in serum and gallstones.

Summary: In this study, a catalytic oxidative desulfurization (CODS) process using an organic-inorganic hybrid nanocatalyst was proposed to remove thiophene (T) and benzothiophene (BT) from diesel fuel. The nanocatalyst, synthesized using CuO nanoparticles as a support and a mono copper-substituted polyoxotungstate ([PW11CuO39]) as an active component, showed high desulfurization efficiency. The experimental conditions for the CODS process were optimized using response surface methodology, and a removal efficiency of 98% for thiophene and 99% for benzothiophene was achieved. The synthesized heterogeneous nanocatalyst could be separated and recycled successfully, making it a promising strategy for the preparation of clean gasoline fuel.
