Summary: This study aims to develop an antimicrobial silver zeolite glass ionomer cement (SZ-GIC) and determine its biocompatibility, physical, adhesive, and antibacterial properties. SZ-GICs were prepared by incorporating silver zeolite into GIC at different weight percentages and were evaluated for their various properties. The results showed that SZ-GICs have similar surface morphology and topography to GIC, but exhibit enhanced physical, adhesive, and antibacterial properties. Therefore, SZ-GICs have great potential for caries prevention and management.

Summary: Resin-based materials, despite being widely used in dental restorations, have shortcomings related to secondary caries. In recent decades, there has been significant development in restorative dental materials with antimicrobial properties to prevent and treat secondary caries. The main challenge in developing bioactive resins is finding efficient and safe anticaries agents that do not negatively affect the final material properties and show long-term effectiveness in clinical applications. This review discusses the formulation process, clinical performance prerequisites, intended applicability, and advancements in clinical implementation of bioactive resins.

Summary: This research examined the preferences and willingness to pay of the UK population for different attributes of dental restorations. The study found that respondents were willing to pay for shorter wait times, treatment by a dentist, change in filling color, reduced treatment time, and improved postoperative comfort. The ability to pay affected willingness to pay, with lower-income individuals more likely to opt out of treatment.

Summary: Secondary caries, a major cause of resin-based dental restoration failure, occurs at the interface between an existing restoration and the restored tooth surface due to an imbalance between demineralization and remineralization. Incorporating bioactive compounds into resin-based materials, such as nano-sized amorphous calcium phosphate (NACP), calcium fluoride (CaF2), and bioactive glass (BAG), has shown promising results in preventing bacterial biofilm attachment and promoting remineralization. The effectiveness of these compounds depends on their structure, amount, and intended application. To enhance remineralization outcomes and antibacterial action, inorganic remineralizing compounds are often combined with other bioactive agents, such as quaternary ammonium compounds (QACs). However, more clinical testing is needed to validate the performance of these compounds.

Summary: During the COVID19 pandemic, the Latvian government imposed restrictions on dental care, which affected the decision-making of Latvian dentists regarding caries treatment. The survey revealed that most Latvian dentists are willing to continue treating patients with caries, and they prefer to use non-invasive and less aerosol-generating methods.

Summary: This study examined the early preventive dental visit (PDV) rate among children under seven in China and found that early PDV was associated with a lower prevalence of dental caries and untreated dental caries. However, there was underutilization of PDV and social inequities. Public health strategies should be developed to increase preventive dental visits and eliminate social disparities.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the attitudes of general dentists in the Republic of Croatia towards working with children. The findings revealed that only a small percentage of dentists had a positive attitude towards treating children, while a larger percentage had a negative attitude. The study also found correlations between attitudes towards working with children, dental education, and gender. Additionally, the non-cooperative behavior of children was identified as the main reason why dentists refused to work with them.

Summary: The study compared the bacteria debridement efficacy of the first and second generations of sonic root canal irrigant activation systems. The results showed that activation of 2% NaOCl with either EndoActivator or SmartLite Pro EndoActivator significantly reduced the overall intracanal bacterial load compared to syringe-side-vented needle delivery. However, delivering 2% NaOCl for 5 minutes using the syringe-side-vented needle produced better bacteria debridement than either sonic agitation system.

Summary: The study compares the experience of patients seen using teledentistry with traditional Orofacial Pain and TMD visits. Results indicated a borderline difference in effectively using teledentistry for follow-ups among different age groups, but no significant differences were found in patients' experience between virtual and conventional visits. This suggests that high-quality dental care services can be provided remotely without adversely affecting patient experience or quality of care.

Summary: This study characterized the surface topography and evaluated the biological responses of various cells to a novel 3D-printed dental implant. The surface of the implant showed a highly interconnected porous architecture and roughness, leading to good adhesion and growth of human oral osteoblasts, gingival fibroblasts, mesenchymal stem cells, and monocytes. These findings suggest that this 3D-printed implant has excellent potential for clinical applications.
