Summary: Isorhamnetin (ISO), a chemical substance derived from plants, has been found to have antitumor effects. In a hypoxic environment, ISO can significantly inhibit gastric cancer cell autophagy by targeting PI3K and blocking the PI3K-AKT-mTOR signaling pathway, as well as promote cell apoptosis, making it a promising candidate for the treatment of gastric cancer.

Summary: Bladder cancer (BC) is a common and urgent medical issue, yet the current treatment approaches have limited effectiveness. This study investigated the anti-BC activity of SP-2, a triterpene isolated from a marine sponge. SP-2 suppressed BC cell viability and induced apoptosis through the inhibition of the FGFR3-TACC3/Akt/mTOR pathway, and it also triggered autophagy and upregulated DAPK2 expression to enhance cytotoxicity and apoptosis.

Summary: The study found that the novel 450-nm laser-mediated DVDMS-based photodynamic therapy (PDT) can inhibit and induce apoptosis in gastric cancer cells by producing excessive reactive oxygen species (ROS). Additionally, PDT also promoted apoptosis in gastric cancer cells through the autophagy pathway. Furthermore, the study identified the involvement of the ROS/PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway in the regulation of PDT-induced autophagy.

Summary: JB induces apoptosis and autophagy in human breast cancer cell lines, mediated by NOXA and AMPK signaling pathway. In vivo study confirms JB's anti-breast cancer effect by suppressing tumor growth. Autophagy plays a pro-survival role in attenuating apoptosis induced by JB.

Summary: In this study, it was found that thymoquinone inhibited the proliferation of gastric cancer cells and induced concentration-dependent apoptosis and autophagy. These effects were mediated through the inhibition of the PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway. The findings provide new insights into the specific mechanism of thymoquinone as an anti-gastric cancer drug.

Summary: Gastric cancer is the fifth most common malignancy worldwide and many tumors display resistance to current chemotherapeutic agents. The interplay between gastric cancer development and the autophagy process is crucial, but the role of autophagy as either a tumor suppressor or promoter remains controversial.

Summary: DEK and miR-5100 play critical roles in gastric cancer, with DEK regulating autophagy and apoptosis through the AMPK/mTOR pathway, and miR-5100 promoting apoptosis and inhibiting autophagy by targeting DEK. LEF1-AS1 has opposite effects on autophagy and apoptosis compared to miR-5100.

Summary: This review focuses on the key regulatory characteristics of regulatory cell death (RCD) in gastric cancer (GC) and the potential of natural products in targeting RCDs for GC treatment. The study highlights the involvement of various signaling pathways and core targets, such as PI3K/Akt signaling pathway, MAPK-related signaling pathways, p53 signaling pathway, ER stress, Caspase-8, gasdermin D (GSDMD), in determining the fate of GC cells. Furthermore, natural products modulate the crosstalk of different RCDs by regulating these signaling pathways.

Summary: SEC23A is upregulated in gastric cancer and indicates poor prognosis. It promotes autophagy by regulating ANXA2 cellular localization, and protects gastric cancer cells from ER stress-induced apoptosis. Moreover, SEC23A attenuates the effectiveness of 5-FU therapy in gastric cancer cells through autophagy-mediated ER stress relief. These findings suggest SEC23A as a potential therapeutic target and prognostic predictor in gastric cancer.

Summary: In this study, it was found that Cos significantly inhibited the growth of HGC-27 and SNU-1 cells and induced cell cycle arrest at the G2/M phase. This effect was achieved by promoting ROS levels, inhibiting the AKT/GSK3 beta pathway, and activating autophagy to induce apoptosis in gastric cancer cells.
