A new biomimetic complex (Co-BBP) that mimics the active site of carbonic anhydrase (CA) was prepared by the coordination of cobalt (II) with 2, 6-bis(2-benzimidazolyl) and was encapsulated into a metal organic framework (Co-BBP@Tb-MOF). Carbon dioxide (CO2) sequestration was carried out via an in vitro mineralization approach using these biomimetic catalysts. The biomimetic catalysts were expected to enhance CO2 hydration and calcium carbonate (CaCO3) crystallization based on the same mechanism as that of CA. (C) 2012 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
