Summary: The combined analysis of serum SAP and PRSS2 has differential diagnostic value for CD and UC. CEA, CRP, and other indicators can also help distinguish different diseases. ROC curve analysis shows that PRSS2 has a certain diagnostic effect in distinguishing intestinal inflammation patients, while SAP is better for distinguishing CD and UC.

Summary: The study compared the concentrations of proinflammatory mediators of arachidonic acid (ARA) and linoleic acid (LA) in patients with CD and UC, and identified differences in inflammation levels between the two diseases. Active CD patients had higher concentrations of 15S-HETE than active UC patients, and levels of TXB2, LTB4, and 9S-HODE were higher in active CD compared to inactive CD.

Summary: This study found that women with a first-degree family history of breast cancer diagnosed between 40 and 49 years, who underwent screening between ages 30 and 39 or 40 and 49, had similar 5-year cumulative incidences of breast cancer as women without a family history undergoing screening between 50-59 years of age. In addition, for women with a relative diagnosed at or before age 45, initiating screening 5-8 years earlier than their relative's diagnosis age resulted in a 5-year cumulative incidence of breast cancer similar to that of an average 50-year-old woman.

Summary: This study identifies potential regulators that drive different pathogenesis of Crohn's disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC) through causal inference analysis of transcriptome data. The findings suggest that IFNG and GBP5 are IBD subtype-regulators, triggering more intense innate immunity and inflammatory responses in CD than UC. The study reveals pathomechanical differences between CD and UC, providing new insights for personalized treatment of these diseases.

Summary: This study analyzed colorectal cancer (CRC) incidence rates in Canada from 1992 to 2016 and found variations by age group and income quintile. The results indicate a noticeable increase in CRC incidence rates among younger individuals, particularly in the lower income quintiles. Targeted interventions and further research are needed to address this issue.

Summary: Depression is a risk factor for Alzheimer's disease, and changes in A13 protein metabolism may contribute to the transition from depression to AD. This study found that elderly patients with depression had decreased A1342 levels at admission, but these levels recovered to healthy levels 1 year after remission.

Summary: This study aimed to assess how age at diagnosis modifies the associations between type 2 diabetes and cancer risk. Data from the Yinzhou Health Information System was used, including 42,279 individuals diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and 166,010 age- and sex-matched control individuals without diabetes. The results showed that the associations of type 2 diabetes with cancer incidence and mortality varied by age at diagnosis, with a higher relative risk among patients who were diagnosed at a younger age.

Summary: This study investigated the incidence of diagnosed dementia and its association with age at diagnosis and survival afterward among the three largest ethnic groups in the UK. The findings showed that Black people had a higher incidence of dementia, while South Asian and Black people were diagnosed and died at a younger age compared to White individuals. Therefore, targeted prevention and care strategies should be prioritized and tailored to these ethnic groups.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate and compare the clinical features in various groups of CD patients stratified by age at diagnosis according to Montreal classification. The results showed that there were differences in clinical symptoms, laboratory test results, as well as disease locations and behaviors among CD patients stratified by age at diagnosis. These differences could guide early treatment or interventions for CD patients who might progress to a more complex disease behavior.

Summary: Patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) have an increased risk of cancer due to chronic inflammation and long-term use of immunosuppressive therapy. The prevalence of cancer in IBD patients is increasing, requiring concern about the impact of IBD therapy on cancer risk and survival. Managing IBD patients with cancer is challenging as guidelines are based on expert consensus and evidence is limited.

Summary: The cost of caring for patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) continues to increase worldwide due to the steady increase in prevalence, the chronic nature of the diseases, expensive treatments, intensive monitoring, and their impact on productivity. This Commission urges evaluation of cost increases against improved disease management and the need for data interoperability and big data approaches to assess effectiveness and cost-effectiveness. International collaborations and novel care models should be sought to enhance education and training for clinicians, patients, and policy makers.

Summary: This study aimed to analyze disease progression and surgery rates in population-based cohort over different therapeutic eras. The study found that the probability of disease progression from inflammatory to stenosing or penetrating phenotype significantly decreased and the probability of first resective surgery also decreased. Overall, the rates of surgery and disease progression decreased over time.
