Summary: New Schiff bases, ligand (L), poly-ligand (PL) and metal complexes [M(PL)2], were synthesized and characterized. The metal complexes showed better biological properties than PL, including DNA binding-cleavage, antioxidant and antibacterial activities. The [Cu(PL)2] complex exhibited excellent oxidative cleavage activity and denaturing ability, while [Hg(PL)2] complex showed high antioxidant and antibacterial activities. The UV-Vis spectra confirmed the electrostatic mode of DNA binding for the poly-ligand and its metal complexes. Rating: 8 points

Summary: Many pyrazoles-based Schiff bases were reported to exhibit high activity against bacterial, parasitic strains, and cancer cells. A new pyrazole based 'NO' bidentate ligand was synthesized and metal complexes with Co+2, Ni+2, Cu+2, and Zn+2 were also prepared. The characterization of the compounds and their metal complexes was performed, and the metal complexes showed enhanced activity compared to the ligand. They exhibited significant anticancer and antibacterial activity, as well as antifungal activity.

Summary: The Schiff base ligand L reacts with Ln(NO3)3.6H2O to form three neutral lanthanide Schiff base coordination complexes. During the reaction, the ligand L is converted into a zwitterionic tautomer L', and the Ln(III) ion is surrounded by three L' units bonded to the phenolato oxy-gen donor atoms, resulting in a nine-coordinated structure. Lc exhibits higher antimicrobial activity compared to the free ligand.
