Summary: This study aimed to compare the image quality and focal lesion detection ability of hepatobiliary phase (HBP) images obtained using compressed sensing (CS) and controlled aliasing in parallel imaging results in higher acceleration (CAIPIRINHA) in patients with liver cirrhosis. The results showed that CS-HBP had better focal lesion detection ability, comparable overall image quality, and fewer respiratory motion artifacts, but higher non-respiratory artifacts and noise compared to CAIPIRINHA-HBP. Therefore, CS-HBP could be recommended for liver MRI in patients with cirrhosis to improve diagnostic performance.

Summary: Gadolinium (Gd)-enhanced MR scanning provides more diagnostic information compared to MR plain scanning. Gadopentetate dimeglumine, a linear Gd-based contrast agent, is commonly used in some countries but has a higher likelihood of releasing free Gd ions (Gd3+) compared to macrocyclic GBCAs. This study found that gadopentetate dimeglumine had osteogenic toxicity in zebrafish, as shown by decreased regenerative area and increased bone density in the treated groups.

Summary: This study assessed patterns of HBP enhancement in hepatic metastases from various malignancies on gadoxetic acid-enhanced MRI. Results showed that different primary malignancies exhibited different patterns of HBP enhancement, with PDAC demonstrating lower enhancement compared to CRC and NET. Further research is needed to correlate the enhancement patterns with OATP1B3 expression and prognosis.

Summary: The diagnostic performance of LI-RADS v2018 on gadoxetic acid-enhanced MRI was evaluated in this study for the detection of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Liver transplant candidates (LT group) were compared with patients who underwent surgical resection (SR group). It was found that LI-RADS v2018 may be insufficient in liver transplant candidates, and other diagnostic imaging tests should be considered in patients with smaller lesion size, larger lesion number, and higher Child-Pugh score.

Summary: Evaluation of gadoxetic acid-enhanced MRI as an imaging biomarker for predicting PHLF showed promising results with varying predictive sensitivity and specificity. Majority of studies indicated that the gadoxetic acid-enhanced MRI parameters were predictors for PHLF. Further multicenter, prospective trials with larger sample sizes are needed to validate the efficacy of individual liver function parameters.

Summary: Relative enhancement (RE) in Gd-EOB-DTPA-enhanced MRI is a reliable method for evaluating simple steatosis and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis. This study assessed the accuracy of RE in liver MRI and hepatic fat fraction (HFF) in unenhanced MRI and ultrasound for screening pediatric obesity-related non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). The results suggest that RE and HFF are non-invasive tools superior to ultrasound for NAFLD screening and follow-up in pediatric obesity.

Summary: This study evaluated the added value of threshold growth for diagnosing hepatocellular carcinoma on gadoxetic acid-enhanced MRI. The results showed that when threshold growth was used as a major imaging feature, the sensitivity of the European Association for the Study of the Liver criteria was significantly higher compared to when it was not used. There was no significant difference in the sensitivities of the Asian Pacific Association for the Study of the Liver and Korean Liver Cancer Association-National Cancer Center criteria. Threshold growth had added value for improving the sensitivity of the European Association for the Study of the Liver criteria without extending washout to transitional-phase or hepatobiliary-phase images.

Summary: Recent advances in systemic therapy have had major impacts on treatment strategies for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The 2022 Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer (BCLC) guidelines incorporate personalized medicine and emphasize the importance of selecting the appropriate treatment strategy prior to therapy. Gadolinium ethoxybenzyl-diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid magnetic resonance imaging (Gd-EOB-DTPA-MRI) plays a crucial role in liver imaging and the hepatobiliary phase (HBP) of EOB-MRI is relevant to the molecular classification of HCC subclasses. Understanding these imaging findings will aid radiologists in suggesting appropriate treatments and follow-up plans. More personalized treatment strategies may be developed in the future.

Summary: Choledochal cysts are rare congenital cystic dilatations of the biliary tree. They are most commonly present in female infants and young children, and their pathology remains unclear. The triad of intermittent jaundice, abdominal mass, and pain is found only in a minority of patients. Diagnosis and accurate biliary anatomy are crucial for surgical planning, which can be achieved using ultrasound and magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography. Cyst excision is the definitive treatment to decrease the risk of biliary carcinoma.

Summary: This study evaluated the feasibility of using simulated abbreviated MRI with second shot arterial phase for HCC surveillance and diagnosis. The findings showed that the modified LI-RADS score of the AMRI with SSAP protocol had high agreement with the LI-RADS score of the full protocol. The HCC surveillance and diagnosis strategy using the AMRI with SSAP protocol reduced the recall rate, enabling simultaneous HCC diagnosis and surveillance.

Summary: This study compared the risk of adverse cardiovascular events between patients receiving moderate-intensity statins plus ezetimibe and those receiving high-intensity statins after a coronary revascularization procedure. The results showed that patients receiving moderate-intensity statins plus ezetimibe had similar rates of major adverse cardiovascular events as patients receiving high-intensity statins.

Summary: Indeterminate diastolic function is associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular death or admission for heart failure, and is related to coronary microvascular dysfunction. Presence of coronary microvascular dysfunction and elevated left ventricular filling pressure are independent predictors of cardiovascular death or admission for heart failure among patients with indeterminate diastolic function.

Summary: This study evaluated the discriminative and prognostic roles of invasive measured left ventricular end-diastolic pressure in the population with suspected HFpEF, particularly for patients with intermediate HFA-PEFF score. Summary: Sonazoid, a second-generation ultrasound contrast agent, has been used for the diagnosis of hepatic nodules. To address the diagnostic issues of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) with Sonazoid contrast-enhanced ultrasonography, the Korean Society of Radiology and Korean Society of Abdominal Radiology collaborated on evidence-based guidelines, which were selected using an electronic voting system. These guidelines cover imaging protocols, diagnostic criteria, diagnostic value for inconclusive lesions, differentiation from non-HCC malignancies, surveillance of HCC, and treatment response after locoregional and systemic treatment.
