Summary: The detailed study of anurans' calling behavior is crucial for understanding their physiology and immunity, especially in prolonged breeding species. The effect is further complicated by the timing of emergence in the breeding season. We conducted a comparative study on the physiology and calling behavior of Japanese tree frogs and found that while a high chorus size appeared in the middle of the breeding season, it did not dominate the physiology and calling behavior. Frogs in the early breeding season had high energy storage and immunity, while those in the middle appeared to have exhausted their energy stores and had low immunity. Towards the end of the season, frogs appeared to have newly introduced, with energy stores and immunity as high as in the beginning. However, the pattern of calling constantly varied throughout the breeding season. Frogs in the early season conserved energy for calling, while those in the late season showed a breeding spurt for mating.

Summary: The study found that interactions between multiple male traits predicted mating and fertilization success in the critically endangered southern corroboree frog, with males having lower call frequency, call rate, and duration showing higher mating success. Fertilization success was also linked to male body size and age. Understanding mate choice for multiple traits further elucidates the complexity of female mate choice in conservation breeding programs.

Summary: This study evaluated the effects of captivity on amphibian reproduction by comparing the sperm production and quality of male Chiricahua leopard frogs in captive, semi-captive, and wild environments. The results showed no difference in sperm quality between groups, but there was a difference in sperm quantity, with captive and semi-captive males producing lower concentrations of sperm than wild males.

Summary: Population monitoring is crucial for understanding the ecology and conservation of species. This study focused on the calling activity of the Mediterranean tree frog and found that it varied depending on geographic and environmental factors. The results showed that male tree frogs called mainly from December to July, with differences in duration and intensity depending on elevation and water body seasonality.
