Summary: This work presents a general and efficient method to synthesize pH-responsive near-infrared (NIR) emitting gold nanoclusters by introducing aliphatic tertiary amine (TA) groups as ligands. The pH-responsive NIR emission is achieved through the protonation and deprotonation of TA groups, which induce electronic structure changes. The pH-responsive gold nanoclusters can serve as specific and sensitive probes for lysosomes in cells, offering non-invasive emissions without interference from intracellular autofluorescence.

Summary: In this study, the near-infrared electrochemiluminescence (ECL) of water-soluble Au nanoclusters (NCs) was significantly enhanced by treating the NCs with piperidine. The piperidine treatment enabled a 16-fold enhancement in the ECL of the NCs, compared to the control with bovine serum albumin (BSA) as the stabilizer. The enhancement was attributed to the reduction of Au(I)-glutathione to Au(0)-glutathione in the NCs. Importantly, this method was also effective for other types of Au NCs.

Summary: The synthesis, structural characteristics, and photophysical properties of luminescent Cu-rich bimetallic superatomic clusters were studied. The clusters display similar structures with gold (or silver)-centered Cu-12 cuboctahedra surrounded by dithiocarbamate/dithiophosph(in)ate and alkynyl ligands. Doping Au and Ag atoms into polyhydrido copper nanoclusters significantly enhances their PL quantum yields.

Summary: This study investigates the excited state dynamics of superatom clusters composed of gold, silver, or their alloys, showing significant differences despite similar structures. State-resolved excited state behavior of gold clusters is greatly influenced by metal composition, while silver analogs exhibit less pronounced effects, resulting in diversity in excited state energy, relaxation dynamics, and photophysical properties.

Summary: Two novel nanoclusters, M1Ag21 (M = Au/Ag), were synthesized and characterized using dppf as an activating ligand. These nanoclusters, supported on activated carbon, demonstrated efficient catalytic activity for the oxygen reduction reaction in alkaline solutions. The catalytic activities were attributed to the ensemble synergy effect between the M-13 kernel and dppf ligand in M1Ag21, as verified by density functional theory calculations.

Summary: We developed a highly sensitive and reliable immunoassay based on surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) using bimetallic alloy Ag@Au hollow dual-rim nanorings (DRNs). The Ag@Au hollow DRNs, consisting of concentrically overlapped hollow nanorings with different diameters connected by thin metal ligaments, exhibited strong single-particle SERS activity and biocompatibility. By using Ag@Au hollow DRNs as nanoprobes, a low limit of detection of 10 pM for human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) hormone was achieved, highlighting their potential as ultrasensitive SERS nanoprobes.

Summary: In this study, the influence of transition metal doping on the electronic and mechanical properties and electrochemical performance of 2HMoS2/NC was investigated using Cobalt (Co) as an example. Co doping was found to effectively improve the electronic conductivity and active site areas of 2H-MoS2/NC at different positions, optimizing the adsorption and diffusion capability of potassium ions. Furthermore, the study revealed the optimal roles of different types of nitrogen atoms in kinetic adsorption, diffusion, and interfacial stability of potassium ions. These findings provide guidance for the experimental design of high rate 2H-MoS2/NC electrode materials and the optimal design of other functional composite materials.

Summary: This study presents a novel heterojunction structure (SrTiO3/CN-TAL10.0) for enhanced photocatalytic water splitting (PWS). The incorporation of thiophenedicarboxaldehyde (TAL) through copolymerization significantly improves the photocatalytic activity of carbon nitride (CN) while maintaining its photostability performance. The optimized composition allows efficient isolation of photoinduced charge carriers and enhanced charge transport, resulting in a remarkable increase in overall photocatalytic efficiency.

Summary: This research developed an effective approach to enhance the charging rates of lithium ion batteries (LIBs) by strategically incorporating carbon nanotube (CNT) conductivity boosters into Li4Ti5O12 (LTO) electrodes. Multi-layer architectures comprising CNT-rich and CNT-free LTO electrode layers were manufactured using a layer-by-layer spray coating method to promote charge transfer kinetics of high mass loading electrodes. The best performing multi-layer was paired with a spray-coated LiFePO4 (LFP) positive electrode, resulting in attractive power performance that outperformed conventional LTO || LFP combinations.

Summary: This study investigates the relationship between the morphology of PMMA monopolymers and PMMA-PHEMA copolymers with the expected nature of surfactant-free microemulsions (SFMEs) before polymerization. It is found that previously mesostructured, surfactant-free mixtures can produce porous polymers of different morphologies, while unstructured, oil-rich regions lead to solid, transparent polymers without nanostructured morphologies. Additionally, a surfactant-based reference system shows similar phase behavior and polymer morphologies as the comparable surfactant-free system, indicating the importance of the hydrotropic behavior of HEMA in this system.
