Summary: This study reveals the characteristics of trichotillomania and skin picking disorder in a Hispanic sample of adults, highlighting the severity of symptoms and low quality of life in this population. Additionally, anxiety disorders and OCD were found to be common comorbidities. The study also found that Hispanic adults with these disorders tend to exhibit higher levels of impulsivity and compulsivity compared to non-Hispanic adults. Furthermore, a significant portion of the Hispanic sample reported seeking treatment, but faced challenges due to a lack of knowledgeable therapists, psychologists, and psychiatrists.

Summary: This study found that patients who did not respond to aripiprazole had significantly higher gamma power compared to aripiprazole responders. This suggests that gamma power may serve as a potential biomarker for unresponsiveness to aripiprazole treatment in patients with bipolar disorder.

Summary: This study examines the association between dopaminergic drugs and GD diagnosis, revealing that dopamine agonists and dopamine modulators increase the likelihood of developing GD. Further research should focus on understanding the neurobiology of GD to design more selective dopaminergic medications with fewer side effects.

Summary: The study suggests that the occurrence of impulse control disorders (ICDs) among patients using ropinirole is dependent on serum concentration and drug exposure, while the use of pramipexole may inherently increase ICD risk.

Summary: This study found that individuals with first-episode psychosis and a history of gambling are at increased risk of developing problem gambling when receiving aripiprazole. The results emphasize the importance of systematically screening for problem gambling in all individuals with psychotic disorders, as this comorbidity hinders recovery.

Summary: This study aims to investigate the genetic component of dopamine agonist-induced impulse control disorder (ICD) in patients with prolactinoma. By evaluating polymorphisms of dopamine receptors and other genes, it is found that there is a significant increase in genetic diversity associated with DA-induced ICD in patients receiving dopamine agonist treatment for prolactinoma.

Summary: Trichotillomania is a disabling mental disorder characterized by recurrent hair-pulling leading to hair loss and dysfunction in daily life, commonly affecting children and adolescents. Research studies on the pathophysiology and pharmacological interventions for this condition are lacking, highlighting the need for more evidence-based treatment approaches.

Summary: While behavioral interventions remain the primary treatment for autism spectrum disorder, new targeted treatments addressing the underlying neurophysiology have emerged. These treatments show promise in effectively addressing the core symptoms of autism and may also target genetic mechanisms associated with the disorder. This article provides a review of current pharmacological treatments for autism and explores upcoming targeted approaches in autism management.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of clonidine, an Alpha 2-adrenergic receptor agonist, in reducing impulse control disorders (ICDs) in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD). The results of an 8-week, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial showed that clonidine had a modest effect in reducing ICD symptoms and was well tolerated. However, larger-scale studies are needed to confirm its effectiveness due to the small sample size.

Summary: Despite significant advances in understanding the pathophysiology of MDD, many depressed patients do not respond well to traditional pharmacological agents. Researchers are exploring new targets and directions in pharmacological treatment for MDD. In addition to traditional antidepressants, many novel compounds are currently under investigation, with promising preliminary results.

Summary: Tichelaar et al. investigated the impact of dopaminergic medication on reward learning in Parkinson's disease, specifically focusing on patients with impulse control disorders. They found that these patients were more sensitive to rewards when taking medication, and this sensitivity was associated with increased value signalling in the medial prefrontal cortex. The study also revealed individual differences in medication effects, suggesting that dopamine's effects on reinforcement learning vary depending on comorbid impulse control disorder and that they reflect deficits in value computation in the medial frontal cortex rather than in reward prediction error signalling in the striatum.

Summary: Excessive calorie intake is a global public health concern, and dietary intake is related to impulsivity and compulsivity. Research shows that sugar intake is significantly associated with trans-diagnostic compulsivity and non-planning impulsivity, while a high fat/high sugar diet is linked to higher motor impulsivity.

Summary: Trichotillomania is a difficult and chronic mental disorder that causes significant distress or impairments in various areas of life. Many individuals with trichotillomania also have other diagnoses, with bipolar disorder being one of the most common comorbid conditions. Currently, there are no FDA-approved drugs for treating trichotillomania, especially in children and adolescents with comorbid bipolar disorder. This case report presents the successful treatment of an 8-year-old child with episodic trichotillomania and bipolar disorder using topiramate during a 3-year follow-up.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate white-matter integrity differences in PD patients with and without comorbid pRBD and ICDs. Results showed that PD patients with only ICDs had higher white-matter integrity, while those with only pRBD showed lower white-matter integrity in specific brain regions.
