Summary: This study aimed to explore the optimal drug dose and duration of adjunctive AMX/MET to FMSRP in periodontitis. Results showed that a high dose of 500/500 mg of AMX/MET had significant and stable improvement on CAL gain and PPD reduction at 6 months. However, there was minimal difference in efficacy among different drug durations, and adverse events risk between the two groups was also minimal.

Summary: The objective of this study was to investigate the clinical and microbiological effects of Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis DN-173010 containing yogurt as an adjunct to non-surgical periodontal treatment in periodontitis patients. The results showed that the test group, which consumed the yogurt with Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis DN-173010, had significant improvements in plaque index, gingival index, and bleeding on probing compared to the control group. However, there were no significant differences in probing depth and clinical attachment level changes between the study groups.

Summary: This study examines the effects of SRP and SRP+MM on 11 periodontal pathogens and clinical outcomes in participants with Stage II-IV Grade B periodontitis. The results showed that there was a significant reduction in the numbers of specific periodontal pathogens in the SRP+MM group, and this group also had improved clinical outcomes.

Summary: PLGA and PCL nanofibers containing metronidazole and amoxicillin prepared by electrospinning showed uniform morphology, high tensile strength, low cytotoxicity, moderate drug release speed, and good compatibility in animal models after implantation. These designed nanofibers have the potential to be used as drug delivery systems for treating periodontitis, with reduced dosing frequency and increased patient compliance.

Summary: The study aims to evaluate the effects of probiotics as adjuncts to different treatment protocols for periodontitis, including SRP alone, probiotics with SRP, MTZ+AMX, and probiotics with MTZ+AMX, through clinical, microbiological, and immunological assessments. Statistical analyses will be conducted to compare the outcomes of different treatments and identify predictors for achieving the clinical endpoint for treatment, with statistical significance set at 5%.

Summary: This study evaluated the clinical efficacy of curcumin versus chlorhexidine as adjuncts to scaling and root planing for periodontitis treatment. The results showed that both curcumin and chlorhexidine had similar effects in reducing probing pocket depth, clinical attachment loss, gingival index, and plaque index. However, the quality of evidence was low, and further studies are needed to firmly establish the clinical efficacy of curcumin.

Summary: This commentary highlights the importance of subgingival calculus in the progression and treatment of periodontitis, emphasizing the critical role of SRP in removing calculus and biofilm deposits to reduce inflammatory burden. It also mentions that inflammation associated with periodontal infections affects both the oral environment and the patient's systemic health.

Summary: This clinical trial aimed to evaluate the adjunctive effect of using EGCG solution as a coolant during scaling and root planing in patients with chronic periodontitis. The results showed that using EGCG solution can reduce the bleeding index at the 12-week review, but had no additional benefit on other clinical parameters.

Summary: This study evaluated the levels of salivary uric acid and arginase in patients with periodontitis, gingivitis, and healthy individuals, and investigated the effects of non-surgical periodontal therapy on these levels. The results showed that salivary arginase levels increased and salivary uric acid levels decreased after periodontal therapy.

Summary: This study evaluated the frequency of side effects associated with MTZ + AMX intake in periodontal treatment and explored the relationship between these events and patients' characteristics. The frequency of side effects varied between the antibiotic and placebo groups, with diarrhea and metallic taste being more common in the antibiotic group. Factors such as diabetes, taking antibiotics during the healing phase of treatment, and being a female patient aged ≤49 significantly increased the chances of reporting adverse events.

Summary: This study aimed to determine if different technology-based health education interventions can reduce oral health inequalities between the sexes in adolescents. The results showed that educational interventions involving information technologies were effective at reducing oral health inequalities between the sexes. However, oral counselling alone was not efficient in reducing gingival bleeding index in male adolescents.

Summary: The oral cavity contains various microorganisms that can cause diseases like periodontitis. Traditional periodontal treatment focuses on mechanical control of biofilm, but chemical control can also be useful. Natural products such as propolis, aloe vera, green tea, cranberry, calendula, myrrha, and salvia have shown potential as oral hygiene products due to their antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties.
